Exhaust Suggestions
Did a little exhaust comparison. The note and drone from my Flowmaster Delta 50s is really exasperated by the 488 and its aggressive camshaft, especially compared to the relative smooth stock 307 (see vid below).
Its too loud at 1/8 and 1/4 throttle through all four gears (2004r) and the character of the engine is different. I think its time for a muffler change, but will keep 2.5 inch pipes. The Dynomax Super Turbo 17734 come up a lot when I search other posts, though I know magnaflow has a great reputation.
Anyone have any praises or negative experiences with Dynomax, or have other exhaust thoughts?
Additionally, any shop recommendations in the Brooklyn, Queens, Long Island area? I only know one place in LI, but I'm trying to find something that is under 1.5 hour drive.

There are basically 3 types of mufflers- Chambered (Flowmaster, and all the FM knock-offs), Straight-through (MagnaFlow, Pypes RacePro, Dynomax Ultra Flow), and 'Turbo' style mufflers. Unless you get the 70 series from FM, all chambered mufflers will be loud. It's just a fact of life. Straight through's can be quiet if the case lenght is 18"+ but will bark under throttle and flow very well. The Dynomax Super Turbo is the best of that turbo bunch as far as flow and sound quality & control. Pypes make a copy of the DST called the "Turbo Pro". It's a carbon copy internally but with a welded stainless case. The DST comes in 3 lengths- 14" (#17734), 16" (#17629), & 20" (#17749). The 20" is a very popular muffler and I agree with Joe in the previous post- you just can't go wrong. Here are some sound clips- Dynomax Super Turbo

The 20" long case Dynomax super turbo mufflers outflow and are quieter than the 14" case. I really like the 17749, I have them on my 500hp LS Cutlass and my buddy has them on a 450hp Pontiac 455 in his 64 Catalina. Both of us are running 3" with H-pipe from headers back to the mufflers and 2.5" tailpipes. Most people would think them too quiet, but I like the ability to have fun without letting everyone in a half mile radius know about it.

Yeah the 20" Dynomax Super Turbo will sound almost stock with the windows rolled up. Down, you should be rewarded with nice sound. That is how my Dakota was. Not all Flowmaster are chambered and restrictive. They make a stainless Flowmaster FX with a 3" straight through core surrounded by sound deadner. They have positive reviews, I'm going to try them with the new motor.

I currently have the 14" Dynomax Super Turbo in 2.5" on my 70S, with the 204/214 cam, shorty headers, a X pipe and recently added dual cats. They are pretty mild, much quieter than the Hooker Aerochamber mufflers they replaced.

3” Dynomax Ultra flow 19” mufflers behind Hooker Super comps and a 496.
They dump immediately after the muffler with turn downs.
not sure it’s a great comparison with your engine but…

Good luck. Choosing the right exhaust tone and components can be a journey.

I really like my Spintech mufflers. They are very thick stainless steel and have a great deep tone and no drone on the highway. I have the Sportsman XL series in 304 stainless steel, Here is a link:
