Exhaust Pipe Removal

Is there advantage to heating rusty nuts and bolts connecting the exhaust pipes to the manifold prior to trying to break them loose? I have wire brushed around them as best I could and used lots of WD40 for the last three weeks? Thanks!

Yes heat always helps... WD40 is not the best thing to use on rusty bolts.... Something like PB blaster is better.

Heating the nut cherry red makes it really easy to unscrew them easily.

The best voodoo juices for rust are

1) 50/50 acetone and ATF

2) Candle wax

Plus heat

but both are flammable also, so if heat ALONE will do it, that's great.

Heat the female part red hot
Keep the male part cooler whether via ice or an air blast or even flameless torch oxygen.

Then quickly apply the power tool, gently so as to not break the bolt/stud. You have to act quickly before the heat equalizes and the shrinkage/ growth differential is lost.

All the above are good suggestions and should get the job done. If they don't, and if the female part is an accessible nut, use a splitter on the nut. It's way better than breaking the male part. Clean up whatever is salvageable, and use non-corrosive replacement fasteners and/or anti-seize compound on the return trip.
