From The Engine To The Trunk
From The Engine To The Trunk
.....I have some concerns as to what we're gona talk about next week. We may have to go back to the recipe de jour.
Jamesbo... Here's our thread for the week. The Prettiest One's trunk mat set. I went out and took pics tonight so you can see the upper part of the trunk behind the back seat, that I was talking about earlier. See how the little mat hits whatever that part- thing is in the middle? (sorry I don't know what it is called) Is that how it's supposed to be? Do I have them in correctly? They look very nice, I think.

prettiestoneengineandtrunk008.jpg
It leaves a gap showing the floor up there, but since it hits against that thing in the middle, I guess that's how it should be?
prettiestoneengineandtrunk012.jpg
It is wide and covers up the marker lights on both sides.
prettiestoneengineandtrunk013.jpg
Is it supposed to cover the marker lights, or should I fold it down into the wheel well gaps?
It was pre-cut here where the J hook goes that holds down the spare tire.
prettiestoneengineandtrunk009.jpg
This little angle is what the end of my jack lays against.
prettiestoneengineandtrunk015.jpg
But there is no cut out for it.
Should there be?
prettiestoneengineandtrunk010.jpg
And this is around the latch.
prettiestoneengineandtrunk011.jpg
So, does it look correct and as it should look?? Or not??
The new trunk divider thing will look a lot neater than her old original stuff back behind the seat, won't it??
But it's kind of sad too.

Will that rear middle flap fold or up tuck up in the slot in front of the fuel tank vent deal or is there no room there?
The back mat should be tight against that piece?
No instructions on trimming for the jack retainer?
Are there any marks on the back??
I don't know how they're supposed to be, I'm really not familiar with those but my GTO mat just covers the trunk floor and doesn't extend over to the quarters like that, most don't, has slots cut in it for the jack thing. It had marks on the back and I had to cut it for width, maybe because it's a convertible.
It seems awfully wide but don't go cutting anything until somebody can say for sure how it's supposed to be.
Fusick may know, ask your good buddy there, you talk to him every day anyway.
By the way, as you know your spare had no air in it. I put thirty pounds of air in, hope that extra weight didn't make it too hard to lift out of the trunk for you.

That was mighty kind of you!! I thought you must have put air in it, cause it was heavier when I got it out of the trunk the other night! Thank you!!!No, there was no instructions with the mat... and there is nothing on the back of it either. I got the other mat out also - I ended up with 2 of them as Larry and Jean were evidently not communicating - and there are no instructions with that one either.

I found this pic of Jamesbo's trunk from a thread on the "proper spare look". It's a whole different car, but I wanted to get an idea of what the mat should look like. I don't see a "little" mat on the raised part of the trunk? Maybe not correct for 69 but is for 72? I dunno.
That odd little piece of the mat in front of the latch is pre-cut along the bottom, but I didn't know if I should cut it all the way off? Don't worry, I'm not going to be cutting anything until I know for sure!
I'll look in this Assembly Manual that I don't know how to read and see if it says anything about the mats. It does look nice, though!
OOOOOOOOOOOOPS,
I forgot, I do have that mat under the rubber one.
Boy, My trunk mat sure looks better than Sandy's.
Now I spose ya want me to go take mine apart to see what's what?
I'm pretty sure there's a cut fer the "L" bracket for the jack.

I had to do some minor trimming for my set also. I cut out for the lugwrench clips and the wires that come up through the floor, as well as around the latch. I also had a little ill-fits here and there - better than nothing.
Remember this is a repro piece and that the fit is never perfect. In fact the factory ones may not have fit perfectly either.... Price was not too bad either.

Use that rock on your finger to slash through the mat for the jack thing.
Larry gives cars away as gifts as long as he doesn't have to touch them.
I don't know what the deal is when he gives you a big diamond ring .

Sandy...When you picked up "Teepo" Larry was talking to Laura and he told her he makes your breakfast.
I swear that I'm never going to hear the end of it.
I just fixed her brakes too, how ungrateful, maybe she saw your ring and that's the real problem?
Cracker Jacks had quality jewelry back when we got hitched.

Jamesbo.... you make me laugh!! I'd much rather have the drive way! Those are my wedding rings, which I always take off when I'm working on the car. Didn't plan on having my hand in the pic, but it turned out that way, LOL!!I'm sure glad you have me around to refresh your memory with pics!!!
I didn't see any cut for the L angle in the pad, and I flipped it over to look. Should I cut one or leave it be? And if this mat is wide, chances are the big black rubber Olds mat is going to be just as wide, huh?? And it probably has cut outs too.
I have to look for the old thread - I know we were talking about this once before, with Allan R.... I gotta find that.
Shouldn't be so difficult, LOL!!

"Candy coated popcorn, peanuts and a prize... That's what you get in Cracker Jacks"!! You crack me up!!!! See, you got a prize with her!I've said before that Larry does pretty much all the cooking! He's a pretty good cook too. I do the baking.
A lot of times I'm not even hungry, but he likes to eat, so he cooks big meals. Sorry he told Laura!
You could fry her an egg some morning, ya know?
Toast her an english muffin - I'm sure you could do it!
You just make me laugh!

Where do you buy toast?

It's not all bad, he didn't tell her he did all the cooking.
Sandy,
I'm wit Blue, flip the mat over and look fer dots and marks for the L bracket. I doubt the black rubber mat will be too big just more $$$. It does have circles on the back to cut the holes out with an exacto knife er sum 'em.

See I told ya we'd be back to cook'in
......Where do you buy toast?

LOL!! You are tooooo funny!!!
Jamesbo... I did look for marks on the back of it but I didn't see any. I'll look again. I already have that big rubber Olds mat. I got it for Christmas, remember?? I've had it un rolled upstairs in the garage airing out for a month or so!
I gotta go look for that old thread... I believe Allan R said to use an "Olfa" knife? Same difference, to me! LOL!

Well,
If I bermember correctly, the rubber mat has the cut outs clearly marked for both the tire hold down hook and the L bracket. Jes cut it out and lay [or is it lie?] it on top of de utter mat and viola you got yourself a very expensvie template.
Problem solved.
