Engine Detailing

Hey guys, just curious, What kind of degreaser do you guys like to use when cleaning the gunk off your motor? Im low on cash right now so I cant go out and buy the good stuff but Im wondering what kind of 'layin around the shop/house' stuff would be good that you guys would use.
Trying to avoid any hardcore degreasers since I dont want to rot any seals. Any suggestions?

Degreasers will not rot seals. You can use 409, simple green, any household type cleaning agent used in the kitchen. You can also buy some gunk engine degreasers or any of the ones at the auto parts store. Be aware that these will strip any loose paint and sometimes leaves a white film.

Gasoline, diesel fuel and lacquer thinner are very effective on the thick gunk. You just need to use extreme caution while using it. If used outside while not smoking, and using plastic brushes, you should be fine. Having a breeze blowing will help dissipate the fumes faster.
409 and simple green work great at removing the lighter residues.

Super Clean works really well.. You can get it at Walmart & at most Auto Parts Stores.
