Egregeous use of a W-25 hood

1968s just don't get no respect. The incorrect W-36 stripes are bad enough, but now THIS???

Different...kinda kool but a 68 or 69 has the have the under bumper treatment. Body lines dont work with this IMO. Still I could get used to it on a tribute or a F85 flat hood no stripes track car. Where the hell didja dig this pic out from?

It's on ebay right now. Blah, blah, blah ad about how it's a rare, numbers-matching sport coupe, only to change everything like adding this hood. B.I.N. is an optimistic $53K or so.

^^^I agree with the body lines it sticks up like a sore thumb...but it isn't mine. To each their own.

Not Too far off the mark...

I think it's kinda sexy... could use a W35, though; that would balance it out.

YMMV

I like it.
Good looking car, too.
I think the W-25 hood looks good on anything.
Basic body shape of '68/'69 is very close to '70-'72.
Hope to eventually put one on my daughter's '69.

I saw the car on Thorntons site earlier this year. They had quite a few pics of their "one off" OAI hood that they made for this car. I personally don't care for it as the scoops just don't go with the '68 hood lines, plus they painted the plastic '70 -'72 OAI air cleaner top the same red-orange a factory '69 would have had . It is a nice car though,a clean, #s matching '68 post with a/c. They did a frame off on it & sent it to Mecums Harrisburg Pa. auction back in July. It brought $40k, they had to have had more than that in it??

First, the whole point of the 1970 W-25 hood is that the scoops are the same width as and line up with the grilles. This design feature was maintained through 1972. The scoops look completely out of place when they don't match the grille. Sorry, but this just doesn't work.

Second, this car may be "numbers matching" in the sense that the engine and trans VIN derivatives match the VIN, but that's somewhat irrelevant on a total custom like this. It certainly isn't close to original, so numbers matching is not particularly important unless you plan to pay $50K just to throw away all the custom stuff and spend another $50K to put it back to stock (at which point is still won't be "original").

Joe's said this before but when you try to put a 70 hood on a 68 the scoops don't line up with the grills like they do on the 69-72's so it looks like crap. There's a reason 68 has a raised hood in the middle. There's a 68 cutlass supreme that was used for the movie "Out of the Furnace" that they installed hood vents to the outside of the flat supreme hood that just doesn't work for me either. (not to mention the fact that they added 442 emblems to it)

When I had my first 68 442, back in the 70s, I got a flat 68 hood and installed an L88 hood scoop on it. The L88 scoop worked much better with the lines of the car, in my opinion. I have a photo of that cars someplace. I'll need to find it. Here's the scoop:

Been thinking of something like this for years, allways wondered how it would look. Might have to do it now.

Hey Joe, have you seen the ram air hood for the Chevy trucks? They make one for your 99! Now that hood definitely does not look right on a Chevy Truck.

Yeah, that's been around for years. Still doesn't look right.

I dig it & think it's well executed. I'd buy one for my 68 if they were made available. I love the factory louvered 68 hood of course, but it would be fun to switch it around each summer with one of these hoods.
