Ebay silliness

Here's someone unclear on the difference between asking price and selling price:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Oldsm...QQcmdZViewItem

I especially like this part:

"I know a couple of weeks ago Linda Vaughn's 1972 Hurst/Olds convertible was on the market for $236,000. I know my car is not Linda Vaughn's car but it is a very nice original. "

What he fails to mention is that the LInda Vaughn car DIDN'T SELL at $236K.

Well, maybe this is another case of "But honey, I TRIED to sell the car..."

Sad thing is, he is probably dead serious. I saw that auction myself and thought "how ridiculous?".

I sort of felt sorry for the kid. How many times have we acted on "it's okay to do that" from someone who doesn't really know... Well, not that bad I guess, but still...

I saw that ad on ebay as well, and I thought that the car was overpriced. I guess some people think their cars are worth more to them than the general public, I bought my car off of ebay, but most of the cars on ebay do not sell, because the sellers are asking too much money for their cars. I recently saw a 72 convertible(advertised as a 442),that had a bad fitting after market hood on it and the seller had in the ad that the car was ready for paint. That car was no where close to where it could be painted. The seller was asking 13,999. It didnt sell.

The price is bad enough, but what got me is that he's justifying it based on the ASKING (not selling) price in another ad. Should I list my H/O for $1M so that everyone else can justify their asking prices? I'm gonna go out on a limb here and predict that the reserve will not be met.

I was cruising ebay yesterday and noticed there were very high 'buy it now' prices listed on most auctions. It is incredible that in today's economy people are asking such high prices for cars.

I've noticed that too. Probably a lot of people that don't really have to sell their car, just putting it out there with those rediculous reserves, trying to get someone to bite.

or they're still living in the "bubble economy" of a year ago and thinking the prices are realistic...

A lot of them are dealers who don't care if their cars don't sell on eBay; just another way to make their product more visible. If one out of 100 of their cars sells on eBay, that's a huge success...
