Does anyone have a pic or diagram of the tailgate??

My 67 tailgate is very heavy to close. There must be something disconnected or missing inside. There is a torsion rod in the nylon slide on the left side, what else is there? A pic or diagram might help. I took the inside cover off but I don't know what its supposed to look like inside.
A friend has a 67 and he can just nudge his upward and it closes itself, mine feels like it weighs 50 lbs to close it.

Your torsion rod might be broken. Check anchor ends and full length for breaks.

I have a 70 wagon which is different than yours. You should get the fisher body manual for your 67. I'm sure it would show what you need.

I do have the Fisher body manual, there is not one picture of the tailgate in there.
I took the inside cover off the tailgate today, the torsion rod is attached to the body on the left side and runs the whole length of the tailgate, but its not attached to anything inside, it just flops around loose.

Ok, I'll have to look at my books. I know I saw a diagram of the tailgate for my 70, maybe it was in the assembly manual? I took a 3way tailgate off another 70 parts car and WOW it was heavy!

went out and looked at my books. I have a 1971 Fisher Body manual but all it shows is the full size "clamshell" tailgate used on the big wagons. I then found a '69 Fisher Manual. It has the dual action tailgate as I have on the 70. It maybe similar to your 67, Don't know.. Hope this helps...

Thanks for the pics, I'm sorry to say they really didn't help me much. My 67 is different like you said. I can see that I am missing something. My torsion rod ends before the right side with a curve on the end. I know the chances of finding junk yard parts is pretty slim but I think all the "A" body tailgates are the same so that may help me a little.

The rod should be anchored on the body at one end and the tailgate at the other end. If it is floppy, something is missing or broken.

I have the '67 Fisher Body manual, and there aren't a lot of photos, but there are lots of diagrams. On page 9-5, Figure 9-7 shows a diagram of A-body tailgates, and the torque rod is clearly shown as item 6. Perhaps this will help.

I think the right side of my torque rod is broken off, its only about 1" above the curve on the end
