Documentation example- '68 H/O
http://www.ebay.com/itm/161918616475...%3AMEBIDX%3AIT
THIS, my friends is documentation
POP [Protecto-Plate]
Tag on trans matches POP info
VIN stamp on engine matches VIN and POP and looks right
Broadcast sheet
Order sheet / window sticker
Very nice
I suggest you save photos for posterity
It also shows a VERY rare '68-9 OAI air cleaner fitting with an AC compressor- which someone here just asserted was the reason that '69 W32's were not available with AC, due to interference of these items. I am not going to say that's untrue... but here it is, more or less the same chassis and engine, and it just fits....
PS if you have always wanted one, this one appears quite real and very good survival rate on parts.
I have no connection to this car at all.

Chris, my W-46 (184) is apart for painting, so here's a pic of what they had to do at Lansing to get the OAI to fit with A/C - someone beat the bottom of the adaptor in to clear the compressor bracket. I'll bet no one thought it was going to be worthwhile to design a new adaptor, or maybe there was not enough time to get it done. This one on mine is a replacement, because when I was restoring mine, the original was beat in and I did not know it was supposed to be like this. A friend had one like NOS so he gave it to me. All was good until I tried to get the air cleaner to sit down on the carb and realized why the original one was dented in.
Also, it is nice to see another one NOT have the RH side OAI clamp to fenderwell installed. In the assembly manual, it specifically calls out to NOT install it - probably because it would overly constrict the tube. I've lost count of all the "experts" who keep telling me I'm missing that clamp and have had points deducted at judging for it.
Interesting also on that air cleaner decal. The 68 H/O road test on You Tube does not not show one (mine is the OJ silkscreened on - I've managed to preserve it) It sure looks like it has patina though.
And by this car's Demmer number, the cars had the 442 dash striping. Apparently early cars (at least prior to 184) may not have had the dash striping. I took mine off because I thought it was not correct, but a couple of months ago a found a picture of when I originally got the car - surprise - it had the striping.

Very nice car. I'm not buying the air cleaner decal, as that's the first one I've seen that way... mine is silk screened as well. This is an 06A car, mine is an 06B.
The master cylinder appears to be a replacement, alternator was replaced (fan/pulley is gold cad plated)... lot of neat stuff, haven't had a chance to dig through it in detail.
Gotta love the deluxe seatbelts.

Shut the front door! Factory dented the hot air adapter to make it work. Restorer goes "WTH" and gets new better part... I was just going over such oddities the other day with another '68 owner. For example, I ditched the air dam with wings in favor of one from boneyard w/o. Should not have? Then there is the little metal tang on radiator top plate that supports?? the upper radiator hose- mine was cut jaggedly, and I *assumed* by some Chevy mechanic, only to find over the years that many are like that. Some are longer, and some are missing and use the plastic loop instead. Just because some aspect is strange does not mean the factory didn't do it.
I have yet to copy the pix of this H/O, was looking at it at work during lunch.
730 pm got the pix looked at
So... no decklid rocket on the H/O ? Never noticed that before.
Anyone else notice the "8961" in huge black marker on the window sticker? I thought at first it was "1968" upside down, but most folks I daresay start and finish the "8" at the top, so it appears to be an incredible coincidence that "8961" needed to be written on this W.S. and just happens to read "1968" upside down. 8-0

No decklid rocket on the H/O's from what I've seen so far.
I looked at the pics and notice the rocker stripes don't curve, so it's been repainted... and buried in the middle of the run-on paragraph it says "Aside from one partial and somewhat lousy paintjob, this vehicle is untouched. The paint is the original Peruvian Silver color code but is fair at best."
Engine has been repainted (and probably pulled), no way original engine paint is that nice, and you can tell by the burn marks on the heads by the manifolds. Not knocking the car, but just saying be careful what you use as a reference... it does have 89k miles.
It is solid as a rock... be a cool car just to have and drive on nice days. '68 H/O window stickers are rare as heck to find.

One thing I forgot to add... original dealer was Griffith Olds in Kansas City, not far from where I work. Original building is long gone, but here's a picture of it in 1958...

It was surprising how many H/O's were around the KC area, and the midwest in general.
