Do you see anything wrong with this a/c set-up?

I have pieced these brackets together and used some new and some aftermarket parts. I used the original p/s pump pulley turned around backwards. In these pics the alternator looks crooked but it looks straight to me here.
What do you think? Its probably not the way the factory would do it but the belts all line up.

Reversing the PS pump pulley is a bad idea, since this increases the side load on the PS pump front bearing. More to the point, factory A/C installations didn't need to do that, so you've got something screwed up. The factory A/C cars in 1967 used the same 5.09" water pump length as non-A/C cars. Just get the correct pulleys and fix the PS pump problem. I assume that aftermarket A/C compressor bracket has lots of axial adjustment.

I thought about the side load on the p/s pump but this looks like it will work. I had to change the water pump to the longer one. So, maybe I have the wrong pulleys too. The a/c bracket has infinite adjustment. Anyway, this may not be the ideal set-up (the reason for this thread) but with the parts that I have it may work. Yes I have some doubts too but I don't see a better solution at this time....
Thanks for your thoughts Joe

I don't think any of those belts and pulley line up correctly. They are way off. Use a straight edge against the back of the w.p. pulley and you will see a big angle on those belts. It's going to wear and squeal.

You've got the correct Alternator and PS pump brackets. Maybe we can help you locate the correct pulleys for the factory setup? John

The alternator is the only one that isn't lined up completely, it needs to move forward a little and I have a way to adjust that tomorrow. As you can see its still a work in progress. The p/s and a/c are lined up perfectly. My whole issue is I'm sure I have the wrong water pump and crank pulleys but the correct ones don't seem to grow on trees.

OK, does your power steering pump have the codes JM and 384678 stamped into it? If it does, my reference shows it should have the following pulleys to match it.

Crank, 3 groove, JB 389645
Water Pump, 3 groove, JH 391114

John

Based on the pictures the neither the alternator or the compressor are in line. the compressor shaft is not parallel to the W.P. shaft. The alternator shaft is not parallel to the W.P. shaft. The belts are not in line with the either pulley. You asked, just saying. It's your car, set up as you see fit.

Like I said, its a work in progress using the parts that I have been able to find. The compressor isn't tight, just mocked up. The compressor bracket has almost infinite adjustability, it can go any direction and line up with any of the 3 crank grooves and will tilt either direction. The bracket wasn't cheap to buy but it is very well designed.
But thanks.

Cool, the JM is the one you want to use. I'll go through my pulley collection to see if I can come up with the crank and water pump pulleys. If someone else has them handy go ahead and offer them up. John

Great, thanks guys. I would rather do it right than just "make it "maybe" work"

John, I haven't received any response from anyone that has both pulleys that I need. I hate to say it but at this point its a matter of availability more than price. I have already spent a lot more than I should have for this job so if you are willing to let yours go I would pay your price, I'm in too deep to quit now.

jb pulley

I found this one pulley. It needs a thorough cleaning and I'm sure it would not be show-quality once done but still solid under all the surface rust.

give me a call if interested? 317-727-7041 Scott
