Question Do I have a Rare Cutlass?

Hello, I am looking to find out whether my cutlass is rare, I have a 1972 Oldsmobile Cutlass 442 with a post. When looking through the dark place that's called the internet, I could not find any other like it. Does anybody have production numbers or anything that I could use to determine?

Sounds like you have a Cutlass S Sports Coupe. The 442 option W29 was available on those.

Post the first 7 characters in your VIN, and the information on the underhood body data plate. We can tell you what the car is, its original paint color and interior, its original engine, and when and where it was built.

Keep in mind 442 reverted to option status in 1972 and was available with the 350 engine. It was basically a trim and handling package and unless there's an X engine code in the VIN it can be difficult to prove a 1972 442.

There were 4,141 Cutlass S Sport Coupes built in the 1972 model year. I don't have the numbers for how many came with the 442 option from the factory, but today pretty much all of them are now Faux Four Twos. For example, this one is a fake. The stainless trim on the rockers was included with the Cutlass S but was specifically deleted if the W29 442 option was selected. Also the wing was not available in the 1972 model year. While the fiberglass hood was an available option, the fakeness of this car suggests it too is a repro.
