Distributor codes

I get the last 4 numbers to determine year month and day of manufacture , but what are the first 5 characters ? For instance my 1972 cutlass dist. Reads lll 2226 2k27. So if I’m correct the last numbers mean 1972 nov.27? What about the first 5? Thanks you

The Letter "I" is skipped to avoid confusion with the numeral "1". The letter "K" represents October in the applicable convention.

The numbers preceding "2K27" are the part numbers for the make. model and year(s).

The first numbers (1111226) indicate the part number for the distributor. As Tri-Carb demonstrated, the 2K27 means 1972 (2), October (K) 27th, which would tell me a distributor of that date would be original to a 1973 model year car.

Thank you so my question now is there a way to tell what make and model the dist. Came in based on the first set of numbers
