Display engine opinions

This is a minor question but how would you do this display engine, with the pulleys, belt, generator and fan or how it is? My buddy that made the roll around stand said I should go all the way and even the wiring but I was thinking as it is now. My main goal was to show the turbo system and not really the complete engine. This is made out of mostly junk parts and for display only. It is not even close to a factory correct high quality display. It even has bondo filling holes in the valve covers and exhaust tubes. Any thoughts or opinions or even something I am not thinking of?

It looks just perfect the way you have it there.

I like how it looks now. I would maybe put some slip on caps over the hose ports so it looks like she is just waiting to go! Everything else looks great

I can understand the turbo system being the focus and its a cool display either way but I would prefer to see it with the pulleys, belts, fan and generator in place.
Wiring not needed.
Just my opinion as an onlooker

I would recommend doing it like Olds did in their promos. No harnesses, but accessories and fans and belts and hoses. Maybe make the hose ends end somewhere unobtrusive.

Where are you going to display it? I like it the way you have it.

I will have it at the MCACN show in Chicago on display next to the 63 Jetfire. It will also be at the Homecoming show next year when they host the Jetfire. Likely other shows now and then. Other than that it is just going to take up valuable space in the garage.

I am trying to figure out a way to mount the Turbo Rocket Fluid tank and hook the hoses to it that are supposed to go there. I did put the pulleys on it but still not sure about the generator. If I put the TRF tank on it I will for sure not have room to put the fan on it.

X2 on W-30dreamin and Koda...belts, accessories and fan.

A thought, an extra valve cover windowed into the rockers and possibly an oil pan for show would be nice.

I can't do that, The engine has no internals in it and is mostly junk.

These are junk and I have another set going on it. The cap is filthy also. This engine does not look as good in person as the pictures. Pitting on some parts and just painted over, a couple spots you can see the bondo in the valve covers through the paint. Some of this stuff will get replaced for the two shows if I have time before MCACN. If not it will go as it is.

Great job on the display engine. I would go with the generator, belts, and fan, but not the wiring.

Be good either way.
must ask what is your procedure for getting the block and heads looking so good.
I too am making a 215 display engine but vintage hot rod theme I think.

I cleaned them as good as I could and then used a really fine glass bead at a low pressure and bead blasted them. Just can't hit them real hard or they look worse than leaving them dirty. After that, it will take nearly a month for the aluminum to oxidize to this color.

Yes. I have not see it yet but there is an online version that I seen a while back. I still need to get a copy.

First off great idea and effort!
If I was doing one to display I would make it as close to a factory display with plaque and detail.
It could be a work in progress as you find better parts at the right price you swap them onto the display engine.
When back at home keep it on display so that it is not just taking up space.
Working in a nice space is a lot more enjoyable than a shop built just for work and car storage.

I added a generator and pulleys. Still not sure about the fan. I feel like it will be in the way more than look correct. Turns out that I don't have plug wires for it and these will not clean up. I may just get a cheap set for it because these really look bad.

Well, I can't get pictures to load with this new system...

Eric,
Congratulations on making a great display piece! But most of all, you are helping preserve history.

Get a junk fan and cut the blades shorter to suit. Mount the fluid tank below the engine, on the dolly. Use clear plastic tubing to replace the plug wires in the colour of your choice and jam the ends into the respective boots. Looking good.

Looking good
I would go with a factory looking wire set and detail the cap and coil. Factory original clamps on the hoses would be a nice touch as well.
I also would clean up the hose routing.
This is a very cool project and will make for a very cool display.

Looks great Eric. I know you won't stop improving it until right up to show time!

Maybe kind of corny, but what you could do is figure out a way of hanging the Rocket juice bottle from a old timey hospital IV hanger with the hose feeding directly to the engine line the engine us hooked up to a Rocket fuel IV - somehow playing up the Dr. Olds angle - maybe saying this was the birth of Dr. Olds?

Not sure if the picture is going to work but I got the air cleaner decals today. Still need to figure out what I am doing for plug wires. I will likely just have to buy a set.

Well, the picture worked but it is small for some reason.

I am doing the same thing as I was but now the pictures are working...

I put the fan on and I am going to go ahead and leave it. It is not as much in the way as I thought it would be. Also installed the air cleaner decals. All I need to do is get some plug wires. It needs a dipstick and tube but I don't have any of those. Those are crazy rare for the Jetfire. I may try to make something that looks correct even if it does not function. Maybe a cut off brake line and put a short stick in it just to look the part.

Nice !
Are you going to have a display sign like the factory used in its displays?

No, just making something to set next to the car at a show now and then. I am ok at restoring or rebuilding something but making something like a sign or coming up with a cool way to display something I am lost. I am not a designer or fabricator in any way.

I'd probably try to get it as close to what Oldsmobile did as possible. But what you have so far looks good in the photos.
