disc brake conversion

Guys,

Will the brake spindles, rotors, booster etc from a 1965 chevelle fit my 67 cutlass? I'm trying to convert from drums to disc in the front...Any info would help. Thx

A 65 would not have come with disc brakes, they were not offered until 67. Maybe someone already put disc on the Chevelle. Are they single piston calipers or 4 piston calipers? The 4 piston were offered 67 and 68 I believe. In 69 is when they changed to a single piston caliper. Any GM A body disc set up will work from 67 to 72, if you can find them. Im sure theres still plenty around but you can buy a complete set up from many places. Im thinking the set up from Inline Tube is a good one, Jegs, Summit, many others. Ebay

In that case, yes they will work. Be sure to get the porportioning valve/ all the brake lines to add to your Cutlass I think there different on drum brake cars. You may need new rubber brake lines too if the 67's are older and or cracked, showing age. There cheap enough. If you need any new brake lines or components, Inline Tube or Right Stuff Detailing has it.

Spindles interchange among all 1964-1972 A-body cars. The one thing to be aware of is that if the 67 Chevelle discs are original, they are the four-piston calipers. These are perfectly good brakes, but the design of the calipers is prone to leakage due to rust in the bores. Steel or bronze sleeves are the best solution. GM went to single-piston sliding calipers with the 1969 model year that are more popular for swaps. The single piston calipers are about 1/10 the cost of the four piston units.

Indeed. I have a 72 setup, and could snag the 67 setup for sale on this board for "more correctness" on my 67, but I don't want to.
