damper on valves

damper on valves

I thought I had triple valve springs until someone told me that the one "spring" was a damper not a spring.Can someone tell me what its for?Does it dampen harmonics?

That's exactly what it's for. It looks like a flat spring in the inside of the set. It's all for harmonic dampening.

All that flat spring is for is to dampen harmonics. I plays no role in keeping the valve closed.

It keeps the springs from vibrating at certain (resonant) frequencies, which would tend to make the downward force weaker at those RPMs, and could also weaken the springs over time.
