cutting speakers into kick panels

I have been working on the stereo in my 70 cutlass convertible. There is a local car audio place that just happen to be working on a 69 cutlass convertible so I went by there to see what they were doing to it. They had cut some speakers into the factory kick panels. I am considering doing this to mine but am feeling guilty about doing it. I don't really like the replacement ones you can buy from custom audio as they are really cheap looking plus I would have to mess around with finding a close to matching paint. I guess my question is if anyone else has done this to the factory ones? Did you end up having cutters remorse?

I installed the speaker included kick panels in my 68, bought them from Year One with nice Pioneers in them. Great quality and matched my black interior just fine. Worth checking out and you can save the originals without having to cut 'emup.
