Counting Cars
Counting Cars
Anyone see the episode tonight? To my surprise, there was the "Count" interviewing a fellow with a 65 442 in the parking lot. It is the car that was picked up today by the transport truck and on it's way to me!
The fellow (Mr. Les Farris) we got the car from never said anything about the filming or being on the show. It was a new episode. I can't believe it. What are the odds. I had the transporter pick it up today and its on TV.. WOW..
Anyway, I'm just real excited to get the car here if you can't tell! Mr. Les was wonderful to deal with and I think he really loved the car.

I like it.I just watched that episode it looks like a real nice car,the count asked the owner if 15k-20k would be a reasonable dollar amount for that car.He said yes but, it was like part of the family and he wasn't going to sell it.
He is 72 and has owned it since 1997. He said he finally came to the realization he could not keep it up like he wanted to any more. I have literally talked for hours with him on the phone and it was obvious he LOVED the car.
I told him it will continue to receive the love and care while in my possession. It will be a keeper.

I saw the show, I don't really like the show, it seems like a crock of s#^( to me. How many people bring a old Bronco to a shop and say "I have $35,000 to spend on getting this fixed, do whatever you want and call me when it's done, just make sure it is green." Doesn't fit my sense of reality.
But, I have questions, I totally believe all you say, this is not an attack, just friendly/nosy questions.
The car is/was in Las Vegas I assume, so where do you live and how did you learn the car was for sale? I wonder if the "Count" got him thinking about selling and instead of calling Danny he just put it out there??
And "Congratulations, sure looks like a very nice car" I luv the 65's too, had a nice convertible that color combo a few years back.
Thanks, Mike

I live just south of Birmingham, Al.
The car was advertised on Hemmings.com and my cousin actually saw it on there. My father and I have been in contact with Mr. Les for 2-3 weeks trying to finalize everything.
Mr. Les, his wife and a friend actually happened to just run into the "count" in the parking lot, introduced themselves and the show folks asked if they could film a spot with them. They had to sign off to be on TV, etc should the segment be used.
Mr. Les emailed me this morning and said he had no idea it was going to be on TV. They told him if the segment was to be used he would be contacted. He never heard anything and assumed it had been scrapped.
Make no mistake, I am sure many things on all of these 'reality' shows are staged..
As I mentioned, due to his health/age, he could no longer give it the time/attention he felt it deserved and selling it to someone who could would be best.
You may not have seen it but I started a thread about my cousin and I both recently ending up with essentially the same cars our dad's (twin brothers) had when they were young. My dad had a 65 almost identical to this one and my uncle had a 66.
I will be getting this 65 and I picked up a 66 tri-carb 4spd for my cousin this past Saturday..
Warren..
BTW, here is a picture his wife shot while the filming was going on.

all these shows are staged...and American Pickers is probably the most staged..they send people out in advance to determine if it's worth a visit, identify the things of interest, agree on pricesin advance, etc.
then the guys root around and look surprised when they find "rusty gold" and then have phony negotiations
however, i enjoy seeing the items and in Count's Kustoms I also enjoy seeing the cars...so I enjoy the shows for that reason...

Yes the idea of them taking your car & doing whatever they think is cool is not cool. I personally would tell them what I want. It does look like they do a good job, and some of their ideas work, others not so much. The 442 is really nice though. Glad Danny didn't score that one, he might have screwed it up. I like it the way it is!
TexasGunner, that would be great if you wouldn't mind!
The car was on Hemmings for $14k and we negotiated a bit... FYI..
Not sure if that is too much or not enough in some folks eyes but the amount doesn't really matter to me as the car will be a keeper.

Wasn't that 1960's version of reality tv?
