Correct oil drain plug gasket?

I'm looking for an oil drain plug gasket for my '72 U code Supreme, and my research landed me on this part number. Is it the right one?

That looks correct.

They are available in the Dorman or Help section at any decent parts store.

Those gaskets in that pack is at least 17 years old. I would get a fresh one.

Ohhh...I see the date, but if it's in the bag, why would I need a fresh one?

That's just me, it all depends how it has been stored. I believe that's still a good GM part number.

Dave - It has a date code listed on the package.

Yup I saw it Norm. 11/25/09. Would there be any reason not to use it?

That is a Genuine GM company name aftermarket supplier. That part number (14090908) is used on a plethora of GM products and not specifically as an oil drain plug - it will fit other areas of many GM engines, assemblies, etc. It "might" be the correct gasket - I'm not 100%.

I think you work in a parts store? Try to cross-reference this number (below) 559563. It almost looks like on the image of the bag you posted there is a number which begins with "5" located below the 14090908 number but is obscured/covered up by that label.

And, I'm not disagreeing with anyone, it's likely a good "GENUINE GM" (aftermarket) part number i.e. most likely will work. I'll note the original (as noted in the parts book) was copper.
