When I first bought my '72 Supreme, one of the first things I did was put the GM "Mark of Excellence" stickers on the doors. IIRC, I bought the correct ones for the '72 model year. They're the flat, non-embossed version.
Fast forward to now and I saw the embossed version on ebay from ILT, and scooped them up because to me, they look better than the flat version.
I did a quick test today to see how it would work, and I noticed the embossed version is smaller then the flat version. I don't really want to remove the flat ones because I don't want to damage the paint. If I just put the embossed ones over top of the flat ones, they'll cover most of the flat ones, with only the silver border of the flat ones showing.
Where is all this going? Well, as I said, as far as I know, the flat ones are correct for the '72 model year, but research has pointed to the embossed ones being correct for the '68 model year. Is that correct?
None are correct.....they stopped using them after 1969 I believe. I remember them on a '69 Buick wagon we had and I always thought those were really, really cool.
After that, use-age is revisionist history Maybe I'm wrong....who knows for sure?
I don't necessarily rely on what the repro vendors say....they are in the business of selling parts. Heck, assuming I am correct, those are so cool I'd leave them on.

^^x2^^
By all means don't remove the one on the left unless you're ready to suffer consequences of unbalanced weight distribution.

From what I know, the flat ones are correct for '72, and the embossed version was used on earlier models like '68. If you're worried about the paint, covering the flat ones with the embossed ones could work, but just be sure they don't overlap too much, especially if you're aiming for that authentic look.

I guess it would depend on whether your car is a '68 or a '72. I agree with other posters, however -- you seem to be getting a little OCD over something that would only be an issue on a concours restoration, and even at that would probably escape the notice of most judges.
Could someone clarify, what years did these stickers come on? I had three 68s, and none of them had the stickers. I always thought they were a Chevrolet/Pontiac thing.
