Correct air cleaner cover color

HAPPY THANKSGIVING EVERYONE!

HEY, I got a 65 vista cruiser with a 2 barrel 330 SBO. Can anyone tell me the correct color for the air cleaner cover. I was told it's orange, red, and even gold to match the engine.

Thanx!

Black for low compression, Olds Orange for high compression.

In 1965, Olds made 2bbl 330s in either low or high compression, so it could be either, depending on what pistons are in it.

I was about to say "You never know..." but I checked the CSM, and for A-bodies in '65, there was no HC 2bbl option - HC 2bbl was only for the B-bodies (JetStar), whether BB or SB.

So, yes, the simple answer is "Black."

Ho boy.

That sure does look like an original 2bbl air cleaner.

I just looked at the '65 SPECS Guide, and the '65 Assemby Manual, too, and it also shows only a LC 2bbl 330 for the A-bodies.

So, basically, you got me.

Maybe a mid-year change?

Maybe it would be worth it for the OP to check the stamped engine number on the front of the Right head, to see whether it points to a HC or a LC engine.
If it says it's HC, then I guess the documents that I know of are wrong.
