Cool April Nights salt flats hemi racer

I spent friday at the Cool April Nights Redding car show at a friends show and shine. This was a fill in before the cruse and the main event on saturday. The bad part was this was his first show and shine and few cars were there(there were 5 other shows with in a mile happening at the same time) but the good part the cars that were there were less than common. Here are a few pictures of the current world record holder salt flat racer.something like 532 cubes 3000 hp twin turbo hemi. There were good stories to keep one entertained.....Here are a few pictures...Tedd

I was told but it didn't stick. he did a burnout on the way out so it had some beans in it. The guy who drives the Cuda told some interesting stories about spinning out on the salt at 261 mph on his second run trying to top their world record, said that was a shorts cleaning experience.....Tedd

How does that Mopar not achieve takeoff velocity? Must have some wicked air dams and such to keep it on the ground.

The speeds are listed on the third picture from the left at the top of the page and the class is AABCG. They said that float (wanting to fly) is not the problem but throttle control is. They had wheel spin at 200 MPH when he pushed it to hard and almost lost it again. They push start it till it's at 80 MPH before it pulls off the push truck. The cockpit looks more like a jet plane than a car.....Tedd

At some point the air resistance starts to counter the HP and traction on the salt therefor the bottom end washing requirements. I'd love to go to Speed Week at Bonneville one day.

Anyone seen the Fastest Indian?

Yes, that's the one. The year before it came out I had my harley on the salt in Utah. Only braved it to 80MPH cause it felt a little slippery believe it or not. Thanks for the pics Ted.
