Hi Ted,
I'm kind of curious about something. I don't know if Olds offered a glass rear window on the verts, but if they did it would be somewhat different than that. I imagine some of the problems that would arise with electric rear defog on glass is movement of the top and the leads going to the bottom of the glass.
Just curious - why would a vert need a defogger for plastic that you can't really see through anyway?

Ted, I was curious about the rear defog so I looked on several SPECS booklets. They changed the option from C50 to C49 in 71 for the electric defog and (72) rear defog on glass, but it was only offered on coupes - not verts. You sure that wasn't an aftermarket add on? It doesn't look like the rear parcel shelf has the right cutouts for a rear defog.
I did a quick search for Chevelle parts (package shelf) and this is all I could come up with. Note it has different cutouts for speakers and the rear defog. Very similar to an Olds coupe or sedan.

For '68, the Dealer Specs book shows rear defogger available only on sedans and coupes. Option C50.
Ditto for 1969:
Don't have '70, but for '71 it's the same. Coupes and sedans. Option C49.
and the same for '72.

Dan, that's the same as I have. I have the 70 SPECS but they're much like 69. The 71 just says electric rear while the 72 is more specific to electric rear on glass. I believe that's the distinction between C50 and C49. I pulled a C49 option from a 71 CS in the boneyard about 4 years ago, so I'm positive it was a 71 option.

Oops, I gotta take that back. The 72 doesn't say Rear Defog on Glass in the SPECS booklet. However the Electric Defogger on Glass is shown and described as the C49 option in the 72 Showroom Product Selling Information Book (Page 75)

Far as I know...GM 68 up were glass, before that...plastic. That's from memory, I'm an old guy. There were no grid defrosters, but there definitely were blower defrosters on some GM A body 'vert's like Skylark + Chevelle (maybe others). I'm only talking about 68-72 A body here. GM never used any folding glass.

I was only talking about GM A bodies and folding glass. As far as I know + remember NO 65 Cutlass would have had glass from the factory. But you can get glass for them now, just like you can get plastic for 68-72. Often when you see 68-72 on ebay they have plastic because it's a lot cheaper.
