Computer Tips & Woes

It seems we all use computers these days.... like to visit here.

How about tips we have learned and problems and how to fix 'em?

I'll start out.
We have LONG known that Alt-Tab will switch instantly to another PROGRAM, so you can dash from here to there and transfer info. For the longest time I was frustrated struggling to switch to another TAB within my favorite browser which is currently Chrome. One day I discovered, by accident, that CTRL-1 brings up the first tab, CTRL-2 the second tab, etc. Not sure what happens if you have 11 tabs open and need to get to #11.... the old fashioned way I guess.

Also, especially when using a mouseless laptop, one often needs to go back to the previous screen... nothing to see here, folks. Turns out, Alt-left-arrow goes back one screen, and Alt-Right-arrow goes fwd if possible.

One of my latest and long running Pains is with... MS Pain[t]...
Take a look at this nice picture produced today, designed to help folks find that elusive Block VIN stamp:

dammit, move the file and the link is dead I guess, so you can never re-organize stuff w/o killing every link ever previously put out.

If you save the file- and you may, for non-profit uses, save and share as you wish.... then open with MS Pain, and Ctrl-Down to zoom in... then go look at the text area at the bottom.... you will see that all around the text is NOT WHITE like I requested when I typed in the text, but spots of gray and really poorly defined fuzzy lettering.... is there any way around that besides pixel by pixel editing, which probably will not happen? This fuzzy text and mottled background happens every time I use MS Pain. Would love to hear a fix for it.

Both of the links above are broke but try saving in PNG format to reduce the distortion. Works for me.

CTRL+Tab moves you to the next tab in your browser, useful for tabs beyond number 10.

CTRL+SHIFT+Tab moves one tab backwards.

CTRL+T opens a new tab.

CTRL+SHIFT+T reopens the last closed tab.

CTRL+W closes the current tab.

Here's a computer tip:

Don't buy any Microsoft software product until it's been on the market for at least two years (and service pack 2 has been released).
