Among other possible items to pick, what's the deal with the data plate?

Open rear end on a 4 speed? That makes a ton of sense.
All of that stuff ordered and no posi or tach.....I don't get it.

Posi is not as popular as you'd think.

And people often bought aftermarket tachs.

Still, you think it's a legit car? And that tag?

The upper color is B. Black.

Its a Linden car, thats how they coded the paint on the window sticker too. So there is nothing wrong with that tag.

Gotcha....all the way over by the PNT mark. It blended in and I missed it.

pretty nice car all in all. interestingly this has the wiper fluid container on the driver side 9like mine) but it looks as if the passenger side was never drilled for it, though those inner fenders good be new/repos.

Also I thought hardtops had the spare under the package tray not where its located, isn't that for convertibles or is that all 70s?

One of the rarest 1970 442's made - the one that was not suppose to be built - a 4-speed with A/C. The M-21 was not available with 3.23 gears, so A/C was not suppose to be available. But the factory did build them if the dealer pushed the zone manager enough. According to the build sheet, the factory installed the M-21 with the 3.23 axle ratio and A/C. This is only the second one I've seen, with a third never seen but spoke to owner about it. Always thought Olds might had installed the M-20 with the 3.23 gears and A/C, but I guess Olds engineers determined the M-21 and 3.23 gears would suffice with the 455. A nice car with oddly matched options.

What's your issue with the data plate? The apparent crease? Or the 120 body number?

What are the standard gears for AC and 4-speed? 3.23s were standard for automatic W-30s with AC.

It was the confusing paint/vinyl part.

There is a conflict (or a running change) in the factory documentation. The 1970 Powertrain brochure shows M21 coming with 3.42 gears and N/A with C60.

On the other hand, the 1970 SPECS booklet shows that 3.23 WAS available with M21 that year, and in fact was "standard and only available with C60".

That's the only location I have seen the spare on any Cutlass of that era.

Here's the 69-72 decal from the OPGI web site:

Correct (with the exception of wagons, of course). Full size cars had the spare under the package shelf, but not the A-body cars.

Back to the 120 body number. I thought all plants started with a 6 digit number, something like 100120 would seem more correct to me??

You are thinking of the VIN, not the Fisher Body Number. I've seen a number of early cars where the leading zeros were truncated on the body number.
