CO Happy Hour at Nationals

If there's interest in a CO get-together at Nationals, I'll buy the first round. Planning to be there from Wed afternoon through Sun morning. I'm thinking Thursday before the official welcome reception might be a good time. That's what we've done in the past. Thoughts?

I hope they have a bottle of Pappy Van Winkle. Count me in Joe. The second round is on me.

Just a thought...It would be nice if all CO members showing a car would include their CO name/handle on the information placard that gets placed on the dash. I'd like to meet as many members as possible and put some faces to the people behind the keyboards.

I will be showing my car, but I have gone a step farther. It is a white car with 2' high ember firemist (red) lettering, saying Run to Rund, of course. On the rear bumper it says in yellow, per original, Run to Rund for your Oldsmodeal. The car has the original turquoise color interior, so my cap is white, turquoise bill, red lettering.

I'm thinking 4:00 on Thursday. That gives people time to get back from the downtown Nashville tour and still keeps the evening open for the official welcome reception. I'm not sure if the host Embassy Suites has a full service bar or just the normal Embassy Suites free drinks setup. We'll have to be flexible about location.

I am glad to see Joe took the reins on the meeting! I would join you fellers, but I will be with my family in our happy place on the Island of Maui! I will be 6 hours behind, so I guess that will be a cup of Hawaiian coffee.

Unfortunately I haven't found a reason for work to take me 13 hours to Tennessee this year so I'm going to miss it. PA was a little easier.....

Joe, I just checked. The Embassy Suites shows to have a bar/lounge listed as one of their amenities. Wonder if they know how to make a good Old Fashioned. Who knows what Patton will be drinking, but don’t let Cincinnati Rick talk you into a game of cards.

Yeah, I just did the same. That sounds like a plan. Let's say 4:00 Thursday at the lounge in the Embassy. Looking forward to it.

Can someone school me up on the meeting? I don’t attend a lot of these events. So I don’t really know what the deal is.

I’m trying to put together a trip from west coast and there’s precious little on activities that I can find. Last one of these I attended was 100th anniversary in Lansing, MI, long ago. My sister wants in, but wife and kids freely admitted they’d rather stay home. Not that I blame them.

I’m seeing cars coming/going all week probably peaking Friday judging day, but are there swap meet day(s)? If there is swapping going on, I’m inclined to get there early, but if not, seems like it would be good to get in on Tues/Wed and head home again on Saturday.

If I make it out, I’d be pleased to buy a round.

Trip suggestions most welcome.

Thanks
Chris

The swap meet is ongoing from Tues through Sat. Here are the scheduled events. Yes, there is a charge for each.

Joe,
Many thanks for the guide. That helps a lot. I hope I’m not bending any rules asking you to post that. I shot an email to the swap meet chair asking about rules for that, but I’m not bringing parts since, well, I live near San Francisco and it’s tough to get a full size Olds bumper in the overhead bin.

To further demonstrate my ignorance, is there a fee to attend either the swap and/or the Nationals? I have no problem with either but thought it would be good to know in advance. Do I need to join OCA to get in? Or is that just a competition judging thing?

Any further tips most appreciated. As much as I’ve learned about the old cars, the meet, Nats and swap stuff is a little unfamiliar. Just don’t want to p*ss anyone off

Looks like I’m getting in Tuesday night and will hang out ‘til Saturday. Keep me posted on the meet up. Would be pleased to buy round 2 or 3 as helps.

cheers
Chris

I don't believe there are any fees to go to the show or the swap meet. Those are open to the "general public".

We may need to start the "meeting" earlier if there are so many free rounds being offered by various folks.....that or drink REAL fast. Darn thing is going to turn into a chugging contest at this rate. Then again, what else do you expect from this gathering of motley hoodlums?

I will see about going. I'm taking my 79 H/O as my first choice, or, my black silver 79 Cutlass Supreme Brougham if the H/O gets any issues. A lot is riding on me getting my new enclosed trailer registered using our South Carolina home. I spoke to the SC DMV folks who advise me there will be no problem, so I'm hoping the H/O gets the nod. If no trailer I drive the Brougham.

I'll place CO- bluecalais79 on the card. See you all there!

Chris, there's no charge for spectators or swap meet buyers. All are welcome. The only fees are for putting a car in the show and for attending the "official" events. Spectators certainly don't need to be OCA members, but show participants do. Hope to see you there.

Are you bringing one of your cars to be judged this year? Really like to see your work. Thanks.

I'm bringing my "patina'd" 62, which is not exactly show car material. I'm driving it down. It will be in the unjudged Driver class.

I have a question, say I check in on Tuesday and find out where I will be parked, can I leave with my car each day or do I have to leave it there for the week? I'm in the unjudged driver class with my 67 Vista Cruiser. I live 4 miles from the show and will be going home each evening and returning each morning.
Thanks guys.

The car only needs to be in it's space on Friday. Many people use their cars during the week. This is an outdoor parking lot, not like the indoor shows where getting the car in and out can be a problem.

In 2015 I put my car in the trailer each night with my truck hooked to it.

I'm really glad they started the Driver Class category. The AACA has something similar with their Driver Participation Class (DPC) and it really opens things up for folks who just want to drive the car to the show. I have my Blue 79 Calais and our 1969 Camaro in the DPC class.

I'll also be going to the Northeastern Zone show and I'll be driving the blue 79 to that one and entering that as show only. It's a 4 hour drive from our CT home. It would fail out of it's class due to the mods I've made to it (Original Air A/C Compressor, 200R4 trans, 308 posi rear which is correct for the manual trans cars of its day, Hurst Style exhaust, Alum water pump and Alum radiator) and there's not enough to it to justify placing it in the Modified class so it's drive it, show it, and drive it back.

Well, bad news. You'll all be drinking without me. One of the gov't agencies I support has scheduled meetings for next week on the project I'm working, including an all day review on Friday Aug 6. Unfortunately that means I'm stuck here and won't be making the trip. Have fun.

I was just kidding about the Pappy Van Winkle Joe.
BTW, who in the hell still has face to face meetings anymore? Oh wait, you said it's a gov't project. Got it
Seriously though, I'll miss shoot'in the breeze with you as I'm sure many others will too.
