Clear thermostat housing

Has anyone tried one of these? I don't even know if they're available yet. The company, Cool View shows OUT OF STOCK on every product.

Looks like a potential coolant leak to me.

Beat me to it. What's the purpose of this? Oh, ah, look at the green coolant...

And every one of those joints between aluminum and plastic is a leak waiting to happen.

Don’t forget the matching clear distributor cap. Wasn’t there a company that made clear valve covers? See thru air cleaners? Thing of the marketing possibilities!!!

Haha luddites everyone of you....

benefits include:

you could see if your thermostat is opening and closing w out taking it apart and testing it.

you could see the accelerator pump working or not w out taking the lid off the air cleaner, and those sweet purple anodised carb bits might be able to be seen instead of being hidden by the air cleaner.

And nobody mentioned it is on sale for only $166 and will be arriving soon. Who in he heck would spend that much money for something this goofy. I am sure there are people that will. You do get free shipping though. What a deal.

My temperature gauge already tells me that.

A few months ago somebody posted pics of an old show car from the 60's. It had a clear differential cover. Well...at least it was clear when new!

Borosilicate glass, not plastic. Used in boilers. very low coefficients of thermal expansion. Good glass! Should stay fairly clear. Just saying.

And how does the CTE of borosilcate glass compare to that of the aluminum end fittings?

I fall back to you! What is it? It's been a long time I have worked on a steam boiler. I kind of reminder rudder fairalls and compression nuts

A quick Google search shows aluminum has about 8x the CTE as does that glass. 24E-6 vs 3.3E-6 in metric units. Boiler steel has about half the CTE of aluminum, by the way, so about 4X difference between steel and that glass.

Technology just keeps marching on. Aluminum construction with Buna N seals. Nylon glass? https://www.grainger.com/product/1U9...B&gclsrc=aw.ds

Big difference between a liquid level gauge at ambient pressure and temp, and a t-stat housing a 210 deg F and 16 psi.

Joe, I never said I wanted too. Just like the back and forth witty banter.

Gentlemen, as fuel for the debate, I must say that I am not concerned about the material remaining clear, rather, I am concerned about the deposit of "scuzz" on the inside which will render it opaque. Observe the inside of a used radiator hose, it is not clean.

My only experience with this type of glass in steam boiler is that it remain fairly clear. With a very light scuzz. Even in water that has many materials found in local water supplies. I alway use distilled water in my cars. There are many YouTube videos out there to look at.

So what happens when the car overheats with a rating of only 225*?

That is a different glass(Sight Glass Nylon) for steam boilers. Just to give Joe a hard time. Respectfully!
