cleaning grimy ol' rusty stuff...
Any suggestions or best practices for this? My old engine parts I was figuring on just soaking in kerosene, or something similar, then media blasting. I'm not sure though how to handle the bigger stuff. My main concern is the underside of the hood. it's a little rusty, and pretty grimy. any suggestions for how best to handle this - either on the hood, or engine parts???
Thanks!
Thanks!

Wire brushes in a drill or angle grinder work great but are messy. Cupped brushes are great for larger surfaces.
If you plan to media blast them, why even soak them first? I sent a box of nasty grungy parts to the blaster and got them back nice and bare.
However, I did use a putty knife to remove the first inch of crap so the operator could see that it was a part and not just a crud-clod...
Rusty stuff - wirebrush or media blast after a quick once over with a putty knife.
Sheet metal can be blasted with the right media to prevent distortion.
