Chrome trim with brushed finish?

Does anyone have experience with a brushed finish chrome? This center section has a brushed finish but looks to also be painted a silver/gray color. This is a used one in really nice condition but what looks to be paint has worn off part of it. Anyone have any thoughts about this or have experience with it? I am not sure how I would match the color.

That center part is simply the as-plated finish, without polishing. The "brushed" effect is cast into the die cast part. You are correct, that is paint over the "brushed" section. It is nearly impossible to replate parts like this without losing the brushing detail, especially if there are pits. I've gone through this with the "wrinkle" effect on the trunk trim for my 66 442. Ultimately, I had the plater just grind that part flat and plate it smooth. I'll use wrinkle paint when I repaint the black part. Unfortunately there is no "brushed" effect paint.

This is from the back of a 62 Cutlass. Do you have any idea what the color is that they used on them. Not sure how easy it will be to match. All of them I have are the same way, even my wife's original paint car has some coming off this part. The brushed area is still nice, just need the paint to look more consistent.

When I put new door panels on the 71 Cutlass I had to use the stainless steel trim off the old panels. They were shiney on the edges and sort of brushed in the center. I used fine scotch-brite to mimic the brush lines, going along the piece, the shined up the edges with rouge compound and a wheel. Again this was a stainless part so it might not work for you if your pieces are chrome plated.
