Has anybody had there bumpers rechromed? If the bumper is bent will they put back in the mold and straighten?

Thanks
Tim

Hi Tim
I have, and I'm not sure how they straighten it but mine had a big bend in the middle and when it came back it looked great! I suspect there's a difference in quality between platers. In my part of the country there's not many left as the chemicals they use are pretty harsh and the regulations now are pretty stringent. So if possible you may want to get references from people who have used them. John

Hi Tim yes I had both of my bumpers rechromed, the rear one was bent in a couple of places and now I cant tell where it was straightened. I think they did a good job on them.I first let them redo the bad one to see what kind of work they were going to do and once I got it back which took about 6 weeks,I was pleased and took the front one. I took them to a place here in Houston called DC Bumper exchange and they inturned set them off somewhere.

I, too, have had bumpers done and it looks like they use some sort of press judging by the marks left inside the bumper. None the less, they come out virtually perfect.

X 3 What they said.

The worse part is the back of the bumper after replating.

Whats the average cost for replating. I have to have both the front and the back 3-piece bumpers replated on my 48. From what I see on this forum it can be very expensive. Just looking for a ball park. May need to get into my wifes "egg" money. The older guys on this site will know what I mean

I paid 294.00 to have the front done and 304.00 to have the back. They were able to remove the dents in the rear bumper

Chrome Bumpers

Does anybody know of a place in Michigan some where around Detroit maybe?
At one time I took my chrome off my 56 Century Coranado woody to a guy in detroit but lost the number. I do not think he did bumpers anyways.

Thanks for the replies

Tim

Call Midwest Bumpers in Grand Rapids at 1-800-968-9350. I had my bumpers rechromed in 96 and they straightened the rear one out and they have a life time warranty. Had them rechromed again in 2005 and they didn't charge me a dime.

I kind of like the look of a dent or a scratch in the bumper, so when I back into something (inevitable) I am not devastated.

It gives that nice "lived in look".

Like my grandfather used to tell my grandmother, "stop when you hear glass break".
