Carbutetor numbering

Can someone tell me, on this carburetor number what the 8 is (7045485) in the book it says CHECKER or MARINE? What is a CHECKER?
The person I'm buying it from says its from a Toronado. I'm having to upgrade to either a hot air choke or electric as i atm have a divorced choke set up. The reason I need to upgrade is I'm changing from a stock 69 442 intake to a performer.
Also, can a designated manual carburetor be used on an automatic?
Cheers

A Checker is a Taxi Cab. My books aren't in front of me, but that carb is off a 75 something, and a Checker might be right.

Using the standard decoding information, that number breaks down as:
  • "7045": Made in 1975 ("704": 1970-1975, "5":year ending in 5)
  • "4": California 2-Jet
  • "8": Non-GM Application (such as Checker)
  • "5": Manual Transmission (usually)

BUT, a web search shows it being listed for a '75-'74 Toro 455.

I can't tell you which is correct.

Sure. I have no idea what the difference is.

Not only taxi cabs, but really old ones. These things were virtually unchanged for 40 years, and real tanks. Don't see the carb number listed on my chart either, so probably a non GM application. Checkers had sixes and small V8's, so if considering the carb for a BB application, may be a small one. Bettin' Q-Jet guru Lars Grimsrud v8fastcars@msn.com would know. My 455 has an Edelbrock Perfomer on it, with no choke provisions at all. Went electric, and maybe check the Carbs Unlimited site, as has lots of stuff.

According to the Toronado Owners website, the varb is for a 1975 Toro with 455 for California emissions

Don't know them. My last two carbs were done by Jerry MacNeish of Camaro High Performance. he not only rebuilds and re-colors the carb but he also tests it. Let him know what the set up is that it will be running on and he will build the carb to match it. Also reskins aluminum intakes. Rebuilds, restores other components.

Would the carb be a good one to use for my application? I think it has the larger casting.
