Car show pics
Here are some pics from a more "unconventional" car show in KCK over the Labor Day weekend, Greaserama. Was going to meet Oldsguy but things didn't workout as planned. Kinda neat what these guys do with rusted iron.

Thanks for the pictures of what I missed. That little falcon is sure chopped, is that a soft top? I really like the Ford gasser, it sets perfect, real blower? That coupe with the spider web grill is overdone, I don't care when they go over board on the spider webs and iron crosses and such but I sure like the headlight buckets and the radiator shell (if it had a better grill). The RPU is pretty neat too but it looks sort of like the frame is bent, but it might just be the way the cab and bed join up. I sure missed a good one.

With those speakers on posts, it does appear to have been a drive-in movie lot. Some had hills so that you parked your car with the front end higher, but that lot appears flat. In 1956, my dad opened his cabinet making and boat building shop, and across the street was an abandoned drive-in movie . It had only been abandoned about a year earlier , I would estimate, and there was still popcorn in the machines in the snack bar building, the projectors were still in the projection booth, and there was even a movie in one projector ! The owner hadn't even locked the doors; he apparently went broke and skipped town. All of the speakers were still on the posts. As the years went by, more items were stolen or vandalized , but I got a few speakers for myself. The movie screen was faced with 1/4 inch sheets of plywood, painted white. Every so often, another sheet of plywood would fall off of the screen, and my dad would send me out to retrieve it . It took about 20 years before the property was sold, and an apartment complex was built .

up until about two years ago I had never even seen a drive in that wasn't abandoned. There is one not too far from the house that apparently used to be an "adult drive-in" if you catch my drift (don't worry it is clean now) and we had something like 8 people in a chevy 1500 and a chevy astro with a matress in both vehicles. good times. But in relation to the post: Is the grill in the first picture stock? it would seem like that checkerboard pattern is a subtle homemade thing but what do I know. I like it either way.

Yeah, the ford gasser was nice and it was a real blower. The spiderwebs were over the top. The show was at the Boulevard Drive-In and it looked like it was still in use, not the best part of town. Still fun to see what some people come up with. I'll have some more photos up later.

In the area where I live there group of Hot Roaders that have started a Friday & Saturday Evening Meet (Weather permiting) that has got permission to use a couple of areas in the parking lots of large shopping centers, both of which have fast food joints. I found about it talking to a guy at the local NAPA store. THe meet runs from 5:00 to when ever. I took my 57 Olds to one last night about 25 cars showed up ( I was told thats because it is now cold outside) Usually there are around 35-40 cars. People come and go some bring chairs and stay for awhile. It was a blast, I was the only Olds there and the 455 was a hit. No I am on the phone list. This should happen in all areas what a great way to network. Most of these guys are working stiffs and don't go to car shows
