Car insurance

What type of car insurance coverage do you have? I called my insurance agent today & something didn't feel right about having liability only.

Any insight appreciated.

I used State Farm classic insurance it's insured for a committed 10k. it's would have been a lot cheaper if it would of had shiny paint at the time of inspection. once it's painted I will have higher guarantee of worth and a lower payment
They do have guild lines I can only drive 7k a year must be stored in a garage

Insurance

I used Mecum Classic car insurance after checking with Allstate and one other classic car insurance company. It's insured for the agreed upon value, basically what it sold for at auction. Under $250 per year for 3,000 miles or less driving.

Hagerty. There is a little cheaper insurance available but anyone that I've talked to who has had a claim with them has had absolutely no problems.

I think that the question is, What are the restrictions on "Antique" car registrations in your state, and do you want to register it as a daily driver or as an occasional use collector car?

And, unless you're a high school kid bagging groceries, why on earth would you want liability-only?

I have American Collectors Ins. on my 65 Vette. Its insured full coverage for $40,000.
Its less than 300 a year. I think there are limitations on milage but I know I don't drive it as much as I could.

I use Safeco and have used JC Taylor also. If you get an Antique policy make sure its for agreed value. The car has to be garaged and cannot be a daily driver. You must have another car available for regular use.

Thanks for the responses.

Eric, I didn't want liability-only. It didn't seem right so I came here first.

I had liability only on mine while I was building it, but the Plymouth was insured through JC Taylor. I was driving the Cutlass back and forth to work everyday. Then when I sold the Plymouth I went ahead and put the Cutlass on with Safeco.

As I am building my now, it's still insured for the set amount but it's a parking insurance it's only costing me like 5.00 bucks a months.
last year my wheels were stolen from the shop where I was doing my body work. State Farm they were on it luckily I didn't have to finish seeing the claim threw because the detective found the guys and my wheels

I am insured through ANPAC. They have a special policy called CROME classic. The CROME is an acronym for something. I pay $240 a year for full coverage with car valued at 30k. BTW I wouldn't sell it for that but that is the value that the appraiser put on it.
Cheers

I have my 54 insured with American Collectors Insurance for a stated value of $40,000. It includes $300,,000 liability, $100 deductible on comprehensive and $200 on collision. It includes towing (flatbed). It costs me $330.95 / year. It has the usual stuff like it has to be in my garage, I am limited to 2,500 miles a year and I can't drive it to work. So far it has been very good because all they have done is take my money. I hope it continues that way.

I have Chrome also, I like the less restrictions than traditional collector insurance. You can pick coverage to include the 2500, 5000, 10,000 mileage caps.

Both mine are on American Collectors. The problem I have with any classic car insurance is they insure for cost of replacement, not cost of repair. So, if you plan to repair, any difference beyond the totalled amount is out of pocket, and then you have to deal with the title and buying it back baloney.

Ive had JC Taylor for 25 years. A friend who also has them got rear ended last year in his pristine 55 BelAire. 25K worth of damage! Dumb azz kid was texting. Two big yellow school buses had stopped with red flashing lights, my buddy was right behind one of the buses and pow. Almost got the front end too as the impact sent him towards the bus in the opposite lane which had stopped as common practice. Buddy had significant neck injury too. JC Taylor said you take it where you feel it will be repaired right no expense spared. He has a house of colors candy paint job with phantom flames and Taylor said if they cant match the paint then the whole car gets painted. Now thats standing by your customers! Kid got his azz handed to him by the lawyers.

Over here I paid £168 (approx. $300) for comprehensive cover, agreed value, breakdown recovery and uninsured loss (if an uninsured driver causes a wreck), for my wife and myself, including travelling through EU countries, Switzerland and non EU Scandinavia, limited to 3000 miles per year.
There are a number of insurance companies that offer similar policies in the UK. It seems old and classic car hobbyists are good risks for them as we mostly drive defensively, making sure our pride and joy stays out of harms way on its way to a show or cruise.

When I have a collector car, it's insured through Hagerty. They seem to work best with Michigan no fault. I've been the repair shop for hundreds of collector car claims over the years and so far every collector car insurance company goes all out to settle a claim. Far better then regular insurance companies. ~BOB
