Canadian part source

Does anybody know of any good Canada based part sources for olds? I'm restoring a '72 cutlass and want to avoid brokerage fees, exchange and shipping delays.

Nope! Not much up here at all. Only thing I can suggest is that you visit the wrecker for some parts. Others? Well the best supply of aftermarket GM parts comes from the US. The fees and delays you are describing is simply the "cost of doing business". I know, I've been zinged lots of times and there's nothing I can do about it. There are some guys in Ont who have NOS parts but they're asking about 300% more than what it'll cost for duty, tariffs, shipping etc. Sorry it just works out that way. If you find an underground parts supplier that can funnel stuff around, let us all know.

What kind of parts are you looking for anyway? Maybe you could post that in the Parts wanted section of this site and specify you're looking for Canadian locations to meet your targets? Good luck. Post pics of your car too, ok?

I'm considering these folks in Saskatchewan. http://www.rpmparts.ca/
There is also Early-Birds http://www.early-birds.ca/ based out of Toronto it looks like. But I think that they are a Canadian seller for Year-One. If you read the "Canadian Customers" link on their site, it sounds like a lot (possibly all) of what you may order will be shipped to you from the US, meaning any brokerage or customs/duty charges will be above and beyond the initial shipping charges. Sounds kinda hokey to me.
I am in need of a few small items, and am considering callling RPM to try them out.

In Ottawa, you're not far from the border... You can also order stuff to UPS locations on the US side and pick it up. You'll pay GST, no duty if the items are US made.

Grew up in Ottawa, can't remember which major NY town is closest... Ogdensburg? Masena? Call the UPS locations there and ask 'em.

Also, I've ordered stuff from Fusick, just have everything from there shipped USPS, and you will only pay GST when you pick up at the post office.

Have also been ordering tools and stuff from Eastwood.com. They ship FedEx Ground, and include the brokerage fees in the shipping cost. I paid $14.99 on a $120 order. No hassles at all...

I,ve also had the same luck ordering from the US. except twice customs pulled my orders and I paid almost as much in customs and duties as I paid for the part.No hassles if they don't pick your delivery for inspection.

Don't know anything about RPM. But early-birds parts come mostly out of Taiwan, not sure you want to use them parts on a restoration of any calibre.

You shouldn't pay any duty at all for US made parts (new or used) under NAFTA. You would have grounds for appeal if some customs clerk tried to ding you for this. With USPS, you should pay $5 handling to Canada Post, plus whatever GST is on the value of the goods. That's it. Courier services can charge whatever they want for brokerage.

Re: FedEx ground from Eastwood includes brokerage in their shipping fee, which is cheap. I think this is true for other companies shipping FedEx ground as well, but I'm not sure.
