i can get this engine for cheep but it is 4 hours away. i do not know the W-31 balancer very good but i thought this looked to be wider than the normal ones. i know that it is not a good picture but if it stands out to someone than knows for sure let me know.

I believe the W31 was stepped and had different diameters to it. The outside portion near the pully is larger in diameter than in by the timing cover. I have seen some pretty thick balancers like the one in your photo. I don't know when or why they used the extra thick ones. John

Are those circles in the pistons,"dishes"?

Wasn't the w-31 equiped with flat top pistons?

The W31 pistons are flat tops. The 310hp version of the 350 engine had "dished" pistons I believe.

LOL yes. thought i may be on to something. sorry but i was trying to get a deal on a w-31 balancer. forgive me, i thought you may just be a non Oldsmobile fan and just wanted to unload it. i was looking in your area for Olds parts because i will be racing a 3 wheeler there in January. i will be at practice on Tuesday and the race is Saturday. thought i would spend the day Friday looking for Oldsmobile stuff in a new area. now you can come to the race and smack me around for trying to take advantage.
