came apon a classic in the junkyard and yall might hate me tomorrow
i was lookin for some parts for my cutlass at a local junkyard today and what i saw took my breath away. sitting next to a ford falcon 2dr was a 1965 pontiac catalina 2dr. the body looked like it was in perfect condition but the motor was missing. all i could do was stand there and admire the car. im gonna go back after work tomorrow and really check it out. if everything else looks good im gonna ask how much and mabe offer a trade. my 83 cutlass supreme 2dr for the cat and see what thay say. heres a pic of the same car i found online. same color and everything.

Nothing wrong with appreciating a car that dazzles you. IMO those big Ponchos are still a very nice car. Not sure about parts though. Suggest you surf the Poncho sites and ask about that before committing to the buy. Good luck!

definitely a cool car but just think it through carefully. They actually may not be able to sell it, a lot of junkyards can not sell a whole car anymore.
If they can sell it, parts for those cars are not as readily available as they are for a-bodies. I always liked the larger two doors such as wildcats, grandprix's and monte carlos. But it will cost as much to fix that car as a 442 and in the end the car won't be worth as much. Yes, I know, not everyone does it for the resale value, me included, but I do feel you should think about that. I am not a Pontiac expert so I would suggest going to one of those forums and see what people say, maybe it would be worth every cent you put into it, maybe not.

I always liked those cars.
No harm in trying - you might have to do a bunch of work to get a salvage title, but that's okay.
And, since there's no engine in it, you can always put in an Olds engine!

A buddy of mine in college had a 4-door Catalina just like that in white. Short, obnoxious guy.
I remember him standing on a table in the campus bar at closing time shouting "Designated Drunk Driver!!" then piling everyone who would fit into the car and dropping them all off at their dorms, weaving his way through the alcohol-induced slalom on the road.
Ah, youth...

I like these cars and there is potential to flip or build a great driver. It depends on overall condition and what else it's missing. What is your goal is if you were to buy it? Take it with a grain of salt, but NADA says 7375 low retail to 19400 high retail. Looks to be in great shape. Is that purple paint and a custom interior? DO take a look at it. Coming up with a 389, 400, or 455 wouldn't be too hard. If you could get it cheap, why not?

So, what's the scoop? They willing to sell it to you or maybe having second thoughts? IMO that car is begging for a resto mod. Don't worry about factory correct.

Grab it.3 years ago I bought a numbers matching 66 Bonneville with a 389 tri-power with A/C and power everything.I work on it when I get a chance. When I retire I plan on driving it cross country on as much of old route 66 that's left.Parts are readily available for it new and used.I have purchased almost the whole car NOS from E-bay.These pictures are from the day I bought it.
