Calling fellow G body friends
Hello everyone, so I sold my 71 cutlass s when I got out the military but kept the motor. Now that I'm home, I pulled my 84 out the yard and it's time for me to bring it back to life. It was my first car and I will never let it go. It ran like a dream when I left but no one took care of it for 6 years. I got a 71 350 with #7 heads but that engine is broken down completely and the machine shop in North Carolina still has my crank and rods, I'll probably never get those back but I have another 350 out of what I believe was the 77 era olds and I'm planning on just doing a basic rebuild and swapping out the top end with my heads new cam intake etc..
So basically I'm asking for simple advice, what do you guys think would work, type of cam, pistons etc. also where can I get some headers for a g body. Thanks

How far away from J-ville are you now? if within a day's drive I'd make the trip back for that stuff.
Keep in mind that 76-later blocks use different gaskets, so make sure what year engine you have before you order gasket kit.
Transmission and rear gear affects cam and intake selection, meaning don't go bigger than your gears can deliver the benefit. Something in 2000-5000 rpm power band should work pretty good. Try to keep your compression ratio in 9:1 range if you want to use pump gas with carb and iron heads. Most G-body guys I know are using shorty headers.
If oldspower.com were still up-n-running there was a wealth of G-body experience there.

I'm running a 70' 350 .030 speed pro pistons (-5.8cc dish) 9.5:1 compression, 750 carb, full length hedman headers and a 224/230 cam. stock 2400 stall , 3.73 rear and factory trans.
pretty good on high way with a 245/60/15 tire, idles at 180* all day, no ping and it has plenty of power.
