A/C and tinted glass? 1970

In 1970 was it mandatory without exception that a 70 A/C car had soft ray glass? I thought it was but I was looking at a car tonight that was an A/C car and did not have soft ray. I assumed that the glass had been replaced but the the owner "claims" it is original glass. It was a 70 Cutlass Pace Car.

I always thought so, too, in all the Divisions.

I have seen it in GM printed materials in the past, but can't point to it right now.

I guess there's always the exception - the only question I would have would be "Why?!?"

Not sure about '70 but I have a '72 4 door with AC & non tinted glass. I doubt all 8 pieces have been replaced. I thought it was mandatory also??

I hadn't heard that one before.

Just took a look at the 70 Rallye 350 order form I have and there is no mention of C60 requiring A01 or A02. There are other required/not-available mentions between options listed...

My '69 Vista was an A/C car and did not have soft-ray glass. I parted a '71 Vista with no A/C and tinted glass and put it into my '69.

Weren't options ordered in "groups" for the most part? I know they were as far back as 1955 by the '55 sales book.

I have a copy of the 1970 salesman's pocket price and option guide that says tinted glass was NOT required with air conditioning

Actually the 1970 SPECS shows AC (rpo C60) and soft ray glass (rpo A01) as completely separate options. C60 does NOT automatically include A01 by default, or it would say that in the C60 rpo. Such as AS4 requires AK1. Also similar to exclusions: Such as U21 excludes T81 and vice versa. Also see the W45 package that shows all the automatically included rpos.

Well, there you have it.

Wherever I saw it, it was for a different Division, or something.

Looks like it was just fine to order A/C and clear glass, if that's what you wanted.

My 70 Vista has a/c and no tinted glass. I parted another Vista that had a/c and did have tinted glass. I saved the tinted glass and plan to put it in my Vista when (and if) I restore it.

Seen plenty of GM cars with C60 and clear glass.
