Buyer beware

Just received a pair of fenders from the Pacific Northwest. Was told in an email and then again in a phone conversation that they were "perfect ". Had them media blasted and needless to say one is far from perfect. Make sure you take more than the seller's word for it. The photos were not accurate either.

I did reach out first. I thought that would be the best thing to do first. He said there was not he could do. For me it's a matter of principal, if you know something is not perfect don't say it is. Rust free means no rust to me.

I agree 100% most of the sellers on here are fair and provide honest descriptions, everyso often there is a disagreement tho

if your not satisfied i would post a pic of the email and of the offending fender and review your transaction in the buyer seller forum.

NOt gonna lie sometimes that can turn into a Shotshow (only i didnt say shot) but w legitimate correspondence and images to back it up not much can be said.

Your dealing with parts that are old, and nothing is perfect. Not even NOS is perfect.

Some expect parts that are better than what was bolted on when they came down the line.
No such animal as 100% rust free 40+ year old part.

This is a total waste of time. It's painfully obvious that you guys are a bunch of amateurs. It sounds like you wouldn't know what a nice parts was if it bit you on your back side.

Misunderstanding?

Oldsmobinder, maybe the folks don't realize you are describing a BUSINESS transaction with a COMPANY, and not the purchase of parts from a member of the forum. Just a possibility - we're not thick in the head.

I dont know who binder bought from but if someone described a part to me as

"a very nice set of rust free front fenders."

Thats what i would expect. (not counting surface oxidation) real rust

I live in the northeast and most cars are not rust free after a couple years, but i have seen some 40 year old parts that have slight surface oxidation w a solid foundation.

Was it a business or an individual on here ? how a bout a pic of the offending part (see my comment about a shot show above as well

The people on this website are anything but amateurs. With comments like that you won't make any friends on here and you will loose access to a wealth of Oldsmobile knowledge that you won't find anywhere else.

Yeah...,
There are a lot of us on here that have had more parts, nice & otherwise, than you will ever have, not cool to come on here & insult us.

I've found some very nice stuff in the Pacific Northwest, so it is out there. Please share more information, and as asked by other members post some pictures. I can move this to the buyer feedback if you want to continue with this thread. Or you can create a new thread there. We created the buyer feedback forum as many members here wanted a place to use as a reference on sellers. Yes, 99% is good feedback which I find encouraging. Most people who've become members here are stand up guys and gals. But what you've shared so far is too vague to really help others out.

Yeah, I'm sharing my thoughts but also making it clear the fenders he bought didn't come from me! That's another problem with saying a region, everyone will wonder who it was you bought them from. I've shipped a lot of sheetmetal to the Mid-West and Eastern states but always include lots of pictures to make sure there's no misunderstandings. John

There is only one amateur here, and it is clearly you. Feel free to leave this forum, you won't be missed.

There is not enough information here to evaluate your claim. Without pictures and the sellers info this claim is useless unless your just trying to say buyer beware in purchasing parts in general.

Let me see here, you join the forum a month ago, and in post #5 you’re bashing someone for parts that are likely close to 50 years old (or older). You list NO pertinent info such as application (fenders for a ‘59 98, for example are not as plentiful as ‘71-‘72 A-body so the pool from which to choose will be much smaller), price, description of the “less than perfect one”, seller’s name, or pictures to back up your claim.
I’m just not sure what you expect to gain by posting “Buyer Beware” in such a nondescript way. That’s not how it works.

I don't know the OP. I have not seen the parts. I do not know how the parts were described.

Having said that, I HAVE dealt with many sellers over the years who were less than honest (or else clueless) in their descriptions. In many cases, they say "no rust" when they really mean "no rust visible today thanks to the bondo and new paint". If I bought a part described as "rust free" and it came with holes, I'd be upset. See the photos of my "rust free" 64 Vista from Reno as an example.
