Build sheet explanation
A Cutlass Supreme SX (Y79 RPO) Convertible with TX coded 455 2bbl, TH400 with 2.56 rear gears? What's not to love? VIN appears to be 342670Z101517 but I could be wrong. My eyes aren't that great anymore.
The RPOs with the descriptions are what was supposed to be put on the car at the factory. The two digit codes and other denominations inside those little blocks were simply matched to the parts in the bins holding those parts as the car moved down the assembly line so the workers could quickly ID the correct part to go on the car. There's obviously a code to part number correlation, many are found in the engineering documentation, but it could take a massive amount of time to go through each code on that sheet. For example, and I'm just making this up, if a sway bar had a "CY" code in the block for front sway bar, you'd know it was a certain part number meaning a certain stiffness. But you'd have to know the code designator for a certain part. I doubt if anyone's ever memorized every one of them.

Many of the codes can be found in the Product Information Manual ("assembly manual") and the Inspectors Guide. It takes a lot of looking, but I figured out most of the information on my build sheet (broadcast card) from those two.
