When I got out of my car the other day my right heel did a number on my console.
Looking for repair suggestions. I thought using some C-A glue to bond the pieces. They are clean like a puzzle. Then fiber glass the back side....?
Here is a pic. I have the 3 pieces to fit back together.
ben442, my suggestion would be to stick to a using basically an ABS "glue".
One option is the glue that is used for "newer" construction homes plumbing, the CPVC or ABS glue works.
It sounds like you have the broken bits, remove the console & temporary "splint" the bits in proper placement- and then glue from the backside. I would even back up the cracked areas (from behind, obviously hidden) with small sections of abs sheet. Readily available most anywhere. & Amazon.
*The plumbing glue works okay in my experience - But EVEN better than that is an ABS slurry. It's exactly what it sounds like. ABS plastic, dissolved into a paste/slurry with Acetone.
I have made many many good strong! repairs with an ABS slurry. (Mostly on older Kawasaki fairings) Done from the backside, it can be made almost invisible from the pretty side. I see your in Canada - there is a guy up there that I still buy my slurry from. You could make your own with just ground up ABS & acetone - but I have no idea how much of each & never tried to figure it out. It was easy enough to just buy his. I've been using his on & off with different plastic projects for 20 years. And am using it now on a 4sp console that I'll be adding to my 68.
Good luck, hope this info helps.
This is his info.
This is a repair that will take patience and practice before going right at it.
The console needs to come out to have good access for the repair.
I'd go behind it with glass mat & resin for added strength, one or two wide layers several inches beyond the repair.
The ABS glued sections will show the crack on the front side. Fill the cracks with just resin or the ABS glue may be enough? Blend & paint.
The glue may protrude proud of the exterior once it dries? You may want to wipe it off before it sets. If not, a light trim with a razor, then blend with 220, 300, 400 paper.
Use a small piece of wood to back the paper until its almost at the same level as the original surface.. Don't use your finger as a backer until the very last few paper strokes. The goal is to not disturb the original surface, just the glue.
The tricky part is to match the exterior surface texture... if needed. Try playing around with different but similar substrates to hone the texture technique.
Use different tools or techniques to mimic the texture. Try it before and after it sets up. Might work better soft??
The front side won't take much to overdo it on the glue. Be prepared to wipe the excess off quickly.
If you choose resin to fill the exterior imperfections, do it sparingly in several light applications to get the surface level. You might be happy with it on the first application of the ABS glue.
Paint and see how it looks. You can redo it several times to get it right....the texture that is.
The back side doesnt matter about cosmatics. You will want to rough finish it and smooth out the edges. Paint it too.
Watch for obstructions that could interfere with the glass work on the back...shifter top plate mount etc...
Keep in mind all of the repair work needs proper surface prep so it sticks.
Howd ja do this? Chicken wing shifting like the Grump?

My garage is a single car garage and when I drive in nose first my driver side is relatively close to the wall and being 6'4" tall it becomes a tight squeeze for my head out of the door opening. My right foot slipped on the carpet and whammo...see through console.
When I get to the repair I'll post my methods and the results. I'm confident I can make it look good again.
Wouldn't be surprised if some of the mounts the screws go through are pulled through or cracked.
Might want to assess the damage before buying repair products, You could be money ahead looking for a good used or reproduction plastic lower???
