Question brake issues on 68 cutlass

My 68 Cutlass sat for about 15 yrs in my garage before I got a chance to start working on it with my now 16 yr old son. Went to drive it out after getting everything running and stepped on the brakes. Pedal was pretty much locked in the up position and after a little more pressure it felt like something snapped and the pedal went to the floor. I assumed it was the master cylinder so I replaced that as as well as all the rubber brake lines and bled all 4 wheels.

brake pedal feels like a rock with the engine off and feels exactly the same with the enginer running. (brakes do work) I am thinking that the booster needs replacing? Any advice?

I agree that it may be the booster, but you should probably check the push rod to pedal area under the dash to rule out any mechanical issues there. Since you said the brakes work it is likely the booster.

Sitting that long is not good. As the master cylinder was stuck the wheel cylinders can also be stuck. If it were me I would rebuild or replace all wheel cylinders and rubber brake hoses. At a minimum disassemble and check the wheel cylinders.

Thanks for both replies.

I don't think there is a mechanical issue with the push rod under the dash as the bleeding process went smoothly after the master cylinder swap. I did replace the rubber lines. I think I will replace the booster and also check the wheel cylinders for leaks, etc.
