Body type?

I recently purchased a 1969 cutlass. My question is how do I identify if its a supreme or an "s"?

In 1969 the Supreme and S have the same body. They didn't change until 1970. The Supreme will have a different trim package. I believe it's the chrome side trim that's maybe a third of the way from the bottom of the doors, and goes up and around each wheelwell. Maybe someone has a picture they can share with you? John

Instead of the vin, how about the trim tag on the cowl? That's under the hood, above the brake booster. I believe there's a code there that may identify the Supreme.

Note the body side moulding that has a strip of silver painted area between it and the wheelwell lips and the lower portion of the body. On an 'S' the trim lines the wheel wells only, and does not extend down the length of the car.

Notice that in the top photo, the trim is on the previously mentioned wheelwells. Option are different as well, seat pattern etc.

So if I my cutlass trim only outlines the wheel well it would be an "s"? Also on my fenders I see no indication of any emblem holes. What could be the cause of this? And I will include the trim tag! Thanks, your knowledge is very useful to an 18 year old first time olds owner!!

That's correct. I would guess that in the 40 plus years that your car has been around, that somebody filled the holes.

Is there a place where I can find the exact locations to drill the holes?

The "S" VIN starts with 336----- for V8 and 335---- for 6 cyl...the Supreme VIN starts with 342-----and has a four barrel carb as standard...

A dozen or so partial answers and nobody tells CJ where he can find the information.
It is in the first section of the Chassis Service Manual. And you can access this on Wild About Cars:
http://wildaboutcarsonline.com/cgi-b...aldisplayed=26
There are other sources of information there too that will show the differences in the models.

Wild About Cars. http://wildaboutcars.com. An information supersource, especially Oldsmobile. More Olds content than anywhere else on the internet and continuing to grow.
You'll find Chassis Service Manuals, Product Information Manuals (AKA Assembly Manuals), Inspector's Manuals, and other documents that will contain this and much much more.
Dealer Brochures, magazine ads and articles, and a home page for you online with your own garage where you can show off what you have.

Guilty.

I just get to feeling like a broken record, saying "Look in your Chassis Service Manual... and HERE is the link."
Sometimes I just slack off.

This morning, I see that he has asked where to get the fender hole info in my email inbox, and I think..he needs a Chassis Service Manual, shame on me.

I've owned it for about two weeks so I'm just soaking up as much info as I can. Service manual shopping it is. While I have some experienced owners attention what would be the best route power/financially wise a crate engine, a bare block, or rebuilding my olds 403? Thanks guys

My glove box has a red S attached to it but I also have a "CS" emblem. It also has bucket seats with a floor shifter. Does that give anyone any indication of what's going on?

The bucket seats and floor shift are options that could have been ordered when new. If I remember correctly bucket seats were standard on the Cutlass, and the bench seat was a credit. Some others will chime in to verify or clarify.
