birthdays?

Anyone ever look at the members birthdays? Today there is one that is 118, one that is109, 100 and other stupid listings. Does it hurt to show the real thing?

Maybe they subscribe to the old adage, "you as old as you feel"

Yes, because publicly listing your birthday is very insecure practice in the digital world. The less you have out in the ether regarding your personal info, the better.

If your name, address, a drivers license, own a car, show any preferences to products, if you are on the internet anywhere, your personal information can be gleaned from that information. If you have a phone, a mailing address, a job, or anything that connects you to information, you are already in the digital world. So a birthday, falsely shown, is relatively minor to all of the other things already in the digital world.

Its the same as people covering up their license plate in pictures of their car. Its the tin foil generation not realizing all their info is already out there.

True, but there are some out there that employ what I would deem are "lazy hacks," where they utilize info that is part of a database that is hacked and sold, and then they use the info contained within that database. Limiting the amount (or the correct amount) of personal info within any site is a good idea. I mean, if someone really wanted to hack me, yes... you're absolutely correct, all of my info is already out there, and could be obtained by a more determined thief.

I look at the post count as my info of interest. I'm gaining on Tedd!

Why confirm tracking info or make it easier? Better to sow doubt.

That doesn't give the full birth date. All you know is that the birth day is "today," so all you have is the month and day. Without the year, that's not of much value if one is interested in identity theft.

I missed that! I thought those numbers were something else. That's too much info.

I'm aware of that. Perhaps I should have said years.

Agreed. I get birthday greetings from a lot of places on Jan 1 every year, and I was NOT a new years baby!
