Beware 1970 SX on Ebay
Beware 1970 SX on Ebay
Check out the "Invoice", dated October 69, shown on this listing. The SX 455 was not available with a 4 bbl carb until February 1970.
Anyone see the other discrepancies on this car?

Grills not painted correctly, rear seat seat belts are not correct, wrong antenna, wrong oil cap, no rear lower control arm upper braces, sticker says deluxe radio which I think is AM only? power trunk not mentioned but wire visible in trunk, no trunk light or under hood light, no clip holding the washer jar hose to firewall, woodgrain on console is '71 or '72 pattern, that might explain the column shift speedo, incorrect trunk mat, gap in driver side A pillar drip rail molding, I believe I can see drum brakes behind the front wheels but it has a disc brake metering valve hanging off the side of the m.c. & the invoice says it should have disc brakes on it, plus stuff previously mentioned. Looks like a nice car though & most of that stuff is easily corrected but it may not have been born the way it is now. Looks like part of the "invoice" was recently made. The white is much brighter than the rest of it.

Scott: I did not know the wood grain on the console was a different pattern in 71. That and the other stuff - good eye! I do not think the rear control arm should have a brace on it though.
LoneStar: I know the 4 bbl was an option on the 455, but thought is was not available on the SX package before February. Good to know.
Joe: I think the seat covers and door panels are correct for 70.
I can understand making an SX clone but it is too bad someone went to such lengths to make up fake documents and try to make them look real. At least they did not try to make a buildsheet for a Lansing car.

Too many beers and too many years have passed since then, so I don't really remember. Had it about 2 months then went to Vietnam. While I was gone, damn log truck hit it then backed into it again during the cleanup. It sat in Olds body shop until I got back, because of GM strike. Few months after taking it back, everywhere they had repaired had big cracks in the paint. Insurance wouldn't do anything, so I really showed'em, I traded it for a Toyota, Ha.
If the T400 trans had the correct VIN than it is an SX and as it is a W32(365hp 4bl) for the time build. After March the SX only came with a 4bl.
The things I see that I would correct to be Correct would be the Hood(but still like this hood), Paint the grilles(silver), Put the correct color seat belts in(no seat belts in fronts) he put a console in as an option, would change to a 1970 version shifter(switch) and console decal, change out the center speedometer for floor shifter version, change color of wheels, adjust rear bumper, put correct decal on radiator support, put heat riser tube back on and other small items fixed.
I believe at some point in time they put a CB radio in this car because ALL
1970 A-bodies had the antenna in the windshield.
Yes the drivers side fender was replaced.
I would also put this car at 140,000 miles because of the brake pedal.
I would need to see the invoice in my hands before I would make a decision if it was a copy because font of letters look correct.

I read somewhere the ratio for the W32 was also the better 3.23 gears (w/A/C) as this one has where as the L31/L33 would be 2 series gear up to a 3.08.
" Feb 24, 1970 – Bulletin announces the L33 2-bbl 455 is dropped in favor of the L31 4-bbl 455. The L31 was the basic 88/98 4-barrel 455.

So during the course of 1970, there were three 455 engine options for the SX: the initial L33, the W-32 442 engine, and the L31 that replaced the L33. "
"While the description of the L31 and the W32 engines (for the SX Performance Package) are similar, there is considerable difference in engine characteristics. The L31 engine is designed to operate with lower axle ratios (2.56, 2.78, or 3.08) and develops maximum torque at lower r.p.m. Option W32 is a performance engine designed to operate with higher axle ratios (3.08, 3.23, or 3.42) and develops maximum torque at higher r.p.m."
The cut line follows a pretty distinctive pattern, even coming juuuuust below the total price in the top right corner.....I am not buying that this invoice is for this car....based on the info at hand
