Bench test a fuel pump ?

Bench test a fuel pump ?

Is it possible to bench test a fuel pump and see if it is operational? I have rebuilt a fuel pump off a 324 as a extra to carry along with us just in case on our Canada trip and would like to make sure it works perfect before I need it. Can a fuel pump be bench tested. and if yes how....Tedd

You can test easy if you a VICE clamp the mounting surface in the vice get container for fuel attach a hose to inlet side and move the arm, should pump, That doesn't mean it will pump when you NEED IT. Get a cheep elect and some wire and carry as back up. Good luck.

Be careful about putting fuel on the diaphragm and then letting it dry out. I don't know if they all react the same, but I have had some become "petrified" after drying out from being wet with fuel. These days when I store a used fuel pump, I put it in a sealed can, submerged in some petroleum distillate.

Thanks guys, I was concerned that I wouldn't be able to get it primed just moving the arm by hand. A cam lobe operates that arm like a dervish compared to what I could do. ...Tedd

If the CHECK VALVE is working as it should it will prime just fine, Good luck.
