I would like to see your interiors, mainly driver's seat and dash.

I just think Oldsmobiles are so beautiful I want to see all of them.

How do you not have cracked steering wheels?

 

I got very lucky all 3 were very well kept, but the wagon actually was / is cracked and hanging on the garage wall, this is a Grand Prix wheel with a rocket logo shhhhh

 

Here's a couple of shots of the interior of my '67 Delta 88 convertible. The gauges are aftermarket, but I like 'em. (That's my goofy beagle Jake to the left of the driver's door in the first photo.)







I'd put up some photos of the '73 Custom Cruiser, but with the seats and carpet out at the moment, it ain't much to look at. But give me a few weeks.

Actually, I didn't think that there was much you could do about this. These wheels crack because the plastic, over many years, finally "dries out" and shrinks, causing the cracks. It cracks for the same reason that over time, your nice, new, flexible shower curtain liner eventually becomes stiff and brittle along the bottom. The whole curtain is slowly losing its plasticizers (what gives a car the "new car" smell), but the part of the curtain near the bottom loses them faster because the water helps wash them out.

As far as your car's steering wheel, you can't stop this by taking any extra special precautions because it happens by just being exposed to the atmosphere.

At least, this is what I always thought!

 

the Grand Prix wheel makes the wagon handle better. I got lucky, all of mine were very well protected from the sun. Some guy wanted $675 to recondition the wagon wheel. I paid $30 for it, got the woodgrain redone for a 6 pack (well it started out as a 12 pack but the painter only got 6 hehehe) this is what it arrived with not horrible but much better now

 

very nice 88 that interior is beautiful! I don't remember ever seeing a color-keyed rear speaker grille was that available or a custom? Looks like Jake thinks there may be some food in there LOL

I have no idea. Car had this interior when I got it last June. The grille looks original to me.

He thinks there's food everywhere.

It's interesting that the rear ash trays in jaunty75's car are long. Both of my 67 - 88's have short ash trays like w-30dreamin's car.
That's just another example of the differences between cars of the same year. I bet his has rear cigarette lighters.

Exactly right. Both rear ashtrays have cigarette lighters. Neither of them worked when I got the car, but they both do now.

Who knew that back in 1967, Olds would already be anticipating the day that we'd need to be plugging in our cell phone chargers, I-pods, and GPS units. Not to mention light the occasional cigarette. Talk about forward thinking!


Actually, all three ashtrays (these two plus the one on the dash) looked they had seen MANY cigarettes in their time. I cleaned them out as best I could and painted them with some chrome paint, and now they look pretty good, especially if you don't actually open them up and look inside!


By the way, did you ever notice that in the owner's manual, service manual, etc., they never refer to these as "cigarette" lighters? They're always referred to as "cigar" lighters. I wonder why that is. More classy sounding?

Great thread Jeff - some very beautiful interiors indeed! I sure miss those overstuffed velour seats (my mom's car had them and they were sure comfy!!!!)

She will end up painting that with green interior paint - right??
The saddle carpet on her door panels is a bit striking, too - I thought it would be green! Are these original door panels?

No food or liquid gets anywhere near my interiors so I don't need that junk, All you need is a Playboy bunny sticker on the back of the mirror to show you like girls, if you do that is.

I wonder how many mouse pelts it took to make one of those those velour seats?

Yep... the cup holder getting painted is on my list!! My sister gave it to me - I couldn't find one that fit the "hump" very well! The only liquid that ever goes in the 72 is bottled water!

Rob.... those are original door panels, and the carpet is fading, bless their old hearts. It's still greenish, but the pics make it look really brown. Replacing them is on my "eventually" list! The top of the passenger side seat is starting to fade also, where the sun hits it. Poor old girl!!

She is a bit camera shy and does not get out much... I have considered selling her also. I will see what I can do.
Here is the only decent picture I have of her on the PC, taken back in '94 or so with a disposible 35mm camera.
She DOES need to get out soon so i can get more pics. Her battery developed an internal short and is now deader than dead.

The door panel carpet only is available - just contact cement it in place of the old stuff... Sounds super easy but I do not guarantee it...

 

Rob.... The 86 is very beautiful also!! I had an 85 Supreme- silver w/ maroon interior.

I would like to add my compliments to the people who have posted after my first post. Again,you all have some very,very nice interiors!

I have a couple curious questions regarding interiors.

I notice Cutlassgal's and Lady72nRob71's door panels have hand pulls to grab and pull the door shut.Is this a cutlass supreme item only?

Also I noticed they (Bluevista also) have the chrome backing plates behind the armrests as does my cutlass S,I have 2 other sets of cutlass S door panels and neither of these have the chrome backing plate.What determined which cars recieved this chrome backing plate?

The only thing I'm doing now is putting a modern GM mirror in it with Autodim, Temp, Compass
because the stock mirror position annoys the absolute CRAP out of me blocking the middle of the windshield.

That plus new Glowshift Elite series gauges for Volt, Oil, Water, and Wideband Air Fuel.

pfff how do you guys keep your interior so clean and without any cracks?

mine have several minor cracks a litle tear becouse of the sun and use of former owners.
