Did some of the 455 battery trays not have the welded nut for the clamp bolt? Took it out to find no sign there was ever one there. I assume this is a repro tray?
Interesting that it could be original! Could there have been a U-nut on there originally? I'll have to check the assembly manual when I get home tonight.
The way I see the battery tray anchor plate installation is that the fasteners are shown in PIM 11-142, screw, flat washer, anchor plate, flat washer, and nut, all for securing the battery to the battery tray.
However, PIM 11-143 shows the additional spacers needed for the 455 engine; this illustration is actually silent regarding the fasteners that attach the anchor plate, so I would revert to PIM 11-142 for guidance regarding the specific fasteners for the battery anchor plate.
Granted the battery trays are different part numbers in the two illustrations, however, my parts book (Feb. 1970; Sec. 2.333, screw part #3960314) shows this same screw (bolt) is used for both battery trays.
Perhaps others may have a different interpretation.
