Barrett-Jackson- August Nights
My name is Jimi , I'm an auction addict .
It is like a big crash at a restrictor plate NASCAR race . Easy to criticize every single facet , and every moving picture tells a story .
Lot # 1 1979 Oldsmobile Delta 88 Royale 4dr. Sold 1100.00 . As in Eleven Hundred Dollars . That included the buyers 10 % premium. I guess everyone has to start somewhere.
Lot # 71 . 1971 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme , Ragtop , Viking Blue.
sold , 24,200 , including the 10 % . Very strong in looks and presentation.
If you go on the B-J . web site , pictures show nice details , especially under hood. Both sides walked away with decent results . As always , details from the owner , and close visuals are very necessary.
THE car that put a chill in me was Lot # 88 . I'm completely NOT a Mopar fan. This was a 48,000 mile Govier certified # 3 of 26 built in Los Angeles , polished , finished , 1968 Dodge Coronet , RT , rare colors , a lot of new finishes , killer under hood , a lot of O.E. everywhere . Sold for 30,000 + 10% = 33,000 . I know the seller HAD to be projecting somewhere in the 50,000 range.
The why that chills me , is that my own 67 Old's Cutlass 442 will be coming out of a high ( or higher than I expected ) dollar restoration in the next 2 months. Barrett Jackson Scottsdale 2014 , MIGHT be where this car ends up for me . If that is my destination , I will be lobbying for a particular time slot , on a specific day . Last year , I was frozen out and made the best of a day 1 first car on TV Tuesday @ 5:20 PM slot.
NOW , I need to drag my documentation to their office , and indicate to
my sellers rep. that I would like to be on around Thursday , between 4-7 PM. Last year I witnessed unusually high amounts being spent on very ordinary finished cars , and the extraordinary were being battled over by
MANY excited , and not well informed buyers .
Anyway , it is all good. The 71 Cutlass Rag , was a NICE car AND well bought . Reno seems like a good replacement for Orange County . AND , it seems crazy that B-J is going to do this ALL over again in 6 weeks in Las Vegas . Auction saturation baby.....
Thx, for the space.. JT

I watched a bit this afternoon. A '69 442 convert rolled onto the block, but of course they had to cut right then to their next "fantasy bid" car, an oh-so uncommon '69 Z/28. Then to commercial. Not a word about the 442. Not that I'm the least bit shocked.

The car that should have you concerned was #695 a factory black 4-speed '67 W30 442. SOLD at $35,500 + 10% = $39,050 It is missing its white vinyl top, but unless I'm missing something - that was well bought.
- this one is stunning.
Personally, I'm more of a Mecum fan. Lots more drivers and much better deals. I just wish that one time (just one time) they would come to the northeast. The closest that they ever seem to get is Indianapolis, or Atlanta.
Wow , there were a bunch of quality Oldsmobiles there.
hurst68olds , You are correct... # 695 , WAS well bought. It was 1 of 2 cars
brought in by " Motoreum " out of Austin TX. That factory black 67 W-30 , amazingly , is still for sale on their web site . I can NOT imagine that they bought the car and paid the 18% buyer AND seller fee. It is possible though.
I valued the fact that they indicated it was " undocumented " , the 15"
P 215/70 r X 15 red lines were a little tall , and there was a set of Gabriel coil over shocks from the 70's on the back of the car . Regardless , I would be tempted on owning that specific car.
57,200 for lot # 699.1 . 69 442 rag top , Blue , Wht/Wht , A.C. , Tach , G.M. of Canada documented . Another decent buy . Parts and restoration could have cost that much. AND , lot # 712 . another 69 442 rag , Red ,
Wht/Wht , ADDED W-32 package AND Hurst wheels..... HHHMMMMMMMMM, 69,300.... That hardly seems close to what that restoration cost. And consider the fact that the seller disclosed the fact that " SOLD new at Bryson Motors , Uniontown PA. Documented with original car invoice , Protect - O - Plate , retail order , owners manual ,
and original temp tag ". Eerily similar to a B-J 442 , from Scottsdale this spring. I do love trying to separate fact from fiction on many of the auction cars. There are MANY professionals that are extremely competent
and available to assist quality buyers.
What I do love is meeting the people with , and behind all of these vintage cars . Every car and every person , has a story. I love the fact that I got to speak with Lee Pearl before he sold his beloved car . AND , he had a great experience with Russo - Steele . I would have LOVED to have been able to bid on the 66 W-30 original Drag Pack racer @ Mecum in Indy this spring..... A steal @ 55,000... I believe , however , all of my fun chips are
" all in " on a restoration currently going on in Kansas....
hurst68olds , I will most likely be in Vegas in 6 weeks for that auction .
If you are going , I would love to buy you a beverage... Thx , JT
