"Barn Find" auction, Pennsylvania
Saw this written up in Old Cars Weekly. Auction to take place August 12 and 13 in New Wilmington, PA. Large collection of cars, mostly convertibles. The video is pretty cool. There are several Oldsmobiles, including a 442 (couldn't tell the year, but it's from the '68-'72 era).

Go to the auction website and open the PDF list of cars.
Holeee Sheeet!!!
That's an amazing collection. I doubt there will be bargains, however. The 1970 442 pace car has my name on it.

Here's another one taking place this weekend (July 30) in South Dakota. Looks like a lot more parts, body shells, etc, and mostly older stuff, but still looks like it would be a great yard just to walk through. Click on the Photos link to see about 10 pages of photos.

This is the same auction house that did that stash of no-mileage, never-registered Chevys from Lambrecht Chevrolet in Nebraska a few years ago.

Yep, cool stuff and I would love to see all of it in person but its darn near 300 miles away from me! That 442 appears to be missing hood and correct air cleaner. I have never been to an auction where people have not overbid on everything but wonder what these 40's and 50's projects will go for. They will be needing a lot and may be money pits but the verts are appealing. Are people still restoring this stuff?

Awesome, hope you bring something home you don't need! LOL If I were there I would see what the 40,s 50 Olds verts were like and sell for. That blue 72 vert may go cheap....

That's the problem with all of these auctions. Too many people with way more money than brains, who think Barrett Jackson is the real world.

just a side note, I do do online auctions, but I dont put my faith into them, they are unregulated in every state, even if done by a licensed auctioneer and many a time their staff bids on the items to drive up the prices...

welcome to proxibid....they charge 15 and kick 5 back to the seller, and most sellers now for online charge 15 but give 5 back to you if you pay cash - so you have to factor that into your high bid (consider, on the 53 vette which popped for 170K, what the vig was on that....
be aware about joe pyle, a few things I noticed, he ignores internet bids until he catches one in house and he uses a 'laugh track' on the audio feed, every time he gets a bid and the clerk enters it, (they just hit the accept button on the terminal) over the true audio feed, you hear people doing a whoo hoo and when he gavels you hear applause....so, when a box of books went for $5 (like the one I bought for example) I got cheered and applauded...and dunno what happened to the end of the auction, they had at least 300 lots of books, paper and parts and someone said 'you wanna take it all?' and then I hear him say 'ok we are done'....so a lot of my bids got left on the floor. (at car auctions I tend to focus on the paper - its where the real money is anyways) And to be honest, the cars I REALLY want go today (I dont follow a norm you guys can identify with I bet!) and I am about to leave for the fly/drive in so lets hope my proxy is high enough.
ps: if the nice, ok but unrestored 75 caprice conv went for 17500 yesterday, will the really nice restored more desirable 75 Lesa conv go for more today? probably. I cant throw the 7K its worth right now, let alone the 5 digits it will bring...

I attended the auction on Friday but left before noon. I agree with your statement. Perhaps the parts/manuals/etc. sold for "realistic" prices. I posted a reply in the Cars For Sale Auction thread.
P.S. My late brother's 72 Supreme is a "cream puff" compared to the 72 Convertible at the auction.

aaaand here's the update (wait for it)...
I GOT IT!!! I am now the proud owner of a very sold, very documented, very beat-up 1970 442 convertible Y74 Indy Pace Car! It's very solid underneath, but needs a full quarter, a partial quarter, a door, W25 hood and air cleaner. The passenger quarter and door were both dented by the forklift driver when the car was moved prior to the auction...DOH!!! The car spent the first 11 years of its life in Charlotte, NC and Florence, SC before being purchased in 1981 and locked in a barn in western PA. This car has every document imaginable from every owner back to day one. Owner's names, owner's manual, build sheets, Protect-O-Plate, photos of the car from the 1970s, you-name-it. The first order of business is to get the car running under its own power, then it will remain untouched until our house is built. Once the house is built, the car's restoration will be a priority. A frame-off resto or a frame-on cosmetic resto will depend on funds, but this car has waited too long to be on the road again, so I don't plan on making it wait another 10 years.

Unfortunately sold separately. I was going to bid on them up to $500 each, but I was about out of money and they went for $900 or $950 each. OUCH! I guess I'll have to settle for aftermarket or wait on a right-place-at-the-right-time deal. As far as any other NOS parts, I haven't gotten the trunk lid open yet, but I did find a letter from a guy who sent the owner an NOS set of pace car lettering.

Congrats on your purchase. Yea, all the cars were moved with a forklift. I wonder how much damage it did to others. The Doctor marked parts for each car but the parts did not go with the car. Another way for the auctioneer to make more money.

Perfect example, most likely no one will care about preserving your dreams, only what they can get out of what is left. This man obviously had countless hours into keeping records and to no avail , as cars and parts were sold separately . Congrats on your score , I am sure this car has a home it deserves , as for the others ? My point if you own them drive them till the wheels fall off , if you do not when your gone someone will .

congrats on the olds and well done. I guarantee you, the quarters will be at fall carlisle, cutoffs and better repros.
the lebaron pace car was the 87, all the 87 lebaron 2.2 turbos had the shelby 'turbo 2' at 174hp, EXCEPT for the pace car which had the 146hp turbo 1. (wife and her ex were fairly prolific shelby collectors back in the day) I was on that car, but proxybid locked us out an hour early!!!! and I had to get to the car show so I lost it. the price was fair.
I was also on the 1978 fairmont wagon. Why? the fairmont is a fox chassis, the SAME as the mustang, meaning every single mustang GT powertrain and suspension upgrade works - very high in demand sleepers, they build them into 'fearmonts' and while I had planned on flipping it to the same people the owner most likely will, I do have a 347 stroker sitting in the garage .....
I was also on all the z24 convertibles and they sold for retail pretty much, I liked the 88 with the W motor (2.8) cuz I got an imsa class 3.1 that would slide in with a 5spd - 225hp in that car would be pretty staunch and lastly I wanted the 88 aires wagon. it had the ultra rare 4spd tranny, but never in my years did I expect it to go for $2G....criminy. someone must have a shelby motor to transplant into it...
but the car show was fun, I have some pics to grab off the phone, a 1902 olds that puttered about all day(and from the age of some of the passengers, perhaps the original owners? ;-) )
and a very very rare 1976 cutlass supreme brougham with the T motor....in top notch condition(1 of like 700, numbers matching). he paid 7500 and turned down a 10K offer so he likes it for real.

Quaddriver, was just reading the thread to see if it had been added to, sitting here with a glass of wine which I nearly dropped/spat out when I re read the line about the Fairmont wagon - very high in demand sleepers, they build them into 'FEARMONTS'....brilliant!!....I bought the 68 Torino Indy Pace car which I have not seen yet!
