Anyone going to Cruisin' the Coast this weekend?
Cruisin the Coast 2016 kicks off on the Gulf Coast this Sunday. One of the bigger events on Sunday is the "View the Cruise", a big block party in old town Gulfport.
For those who live nearby and don't know about it, where Hwy 49 meets Hwy 90, they shut off a few blocks to regular traffic and only allow classic cars to drive the streets and park. You don't need to be registered to do this, it is a giant Cruise-in.
Last year, I just sort of ran into it and read the particulars AFTER I had attended. I didn't even know I could park where I wanted, and parked with the NORMAL cars. Lol. For View the Cruise, there is live music, vendors, food, beer, stuff like that. Just a few blocks of nothing but classic cars lining the streets in downtown Gulfport. It starts at Sunday at around 11, I think.
Anyone else going down there? Cruisin the Coast is my normal cruise route when I "cruise east" from Bay St Louis to Biloxi, pretty much. If you get there early enough, you'll be able to cruise, but during the day, it does tend to become a big traffic jam. Anyone can park along Hwy 90 wherever they want to just sit and watch the THOUSANDS of classic cars go buy.
I will say this. I don't see too many Oldsmobiles out there. Ever. Last year, I saw two other Vista Cruisers, though. A 65-66 and another 72. And when you DO see an Oldsmobile, it's going to be a Cutlass. I'm not complaining about the awesome Cutlasses, I just wish that more people were there representing Oldsmobile. AHEM!!!
I usually park for a bit on hwy 90, watch the cars, and then go drive some and then park again and repeat. So if anyone sees a 72 Vista Cruiser with 442 grills blasting music louder than the lowriders, it's probably me!
