air compressor

just picked up a Ingersoll rand air compressor 7.5 hp 80 gallon upright 2 stage on the cheap. I am thinking of installing it out {next to} of my garage in a shed that is right against the garage that is not heated. this will clear some floor space and help with the noise. has anybody here done something similar? any thoughts or advise?
thanks Charlie,,,

well I am in Illinois, I figure my old compressor sat in the garage with no heat plenty of times with temps well below 25 degrees with no problems. maybe just keep an eye on things when using it and check/drain water from tank when done? I figured I could put a small fresh air intake with motor for summer time to keep from overheating if necessary?

I sure hope it is a 230 volt single phase motor and not a 3 phase motor. That being said a 7.5 hp motor single phase motor will drae 40 amps at 230 volts single phase and will need to be fed with an 80 amp breaker to handle the starting load along with a manual starter with overloads to protect the motor. #8 wire will work for your installation. They are great compressors and should live a long life

We've had a compressor out in the garage for the past 30 years in NY, never had a problem, have run it on 10° days plenty of times.

I wouldn't sweat it, but it's probably better not to run it for long periods way below freezing, as condensation would freeze and be hard to drain (the heat from the compressor should prevent freezing problems in the pump itself).

I sell industrial A/C. I see them outside all the time. Most of the time they just have a shed roof over them. Just make sure you drain the tank to get the water out and you will be fine.
